Navy B Hockey is fast, skilled and powerful and this was the first time the Mids have won their own invitational Tournament! Dahlgren Hall is an excellent venue for hockey ~ not cold and very comfortable, but the ice seems hard and fast. Saturday's win was 9-1 over the College of William & Mary. Navy was far superior in every skill category and generally out 'hustled' them throughout. A lot of scoring, but unfortunately, due to some problem with uniforms, no one in the stands has any idea who is in what jersey on any given day. This is frustrating to say the least. In Sunday's Championship game, the Mids played Kutztown University, who beat Penn State West to gain their berth in the finals. Kutztown was a much more skilled team, which resulted in a fast, well fought contest. Navy's skill advantage prevailed after the first period and went on to a comfortable 6-0 victory. Navy travels to Kutztown in two weeks and I suspect a closer contest will ensue. The goaltending for navy was great, as was penalty killing and forechecking. *** USNA-SPORTS post by: FITZKEE William F 03-13 FITZKEE Steve and Jennie ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~. by westpoint.west-point.org (8.9.1/8.9.1) id JAA23201 for usna-sports-outgoing; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 09:10:56 -0600 (CST) From: WrnrBroDad@aol.com Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 10:11:59 EST Subject: usna-sports: Water polo championships!!THIS WEEKEND To: usna-sports@navy-usna.org --part1_0.687c2fa1.255993bf_boundary --part1_0.687c2fa1.255993bf_boundary Content-Disposition: inline Return-path: WrnrBroDad@aol.com From: WrnrBroDad@aol.com Full-name: WrnrBroDad Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 12:58:48 EST Subject: Water polo championships!!THIS WEEKEND To: mzets@mail.com Hi there!! If you want to see a very impressive march on by the 2 brigades, you must be there before the academy buses start filing in...you will miss the march ons if you have to let all those busses pass. Then people go out for the pre game tailgate. People bring bagels or rolls and butter, jelly, cream cheese and hot cider, coffee or hot water for tea drimkers (we are always forgotten). Then if you want to see the game you usually head over to the stadium. I have always brought turkey sandwiches and juice or punch for the mids. I would find out where his company was and give them the goodies....or better still have your mid meet you outside his section. That way you know your mid would get at least one sandwich. To purchase food from the concessions leaves you standing on line for a long time and perhaps missing one of NAVY's touchdowns. They say you cannot bring food into the stadium, but I have never been stopped. So I didn't have to eat turkey for weeks, I always bought a big turkey and took the leftovers and chopped them up with mayo and took them to those very hungry mids.....they loved the sandwiches as they are always hungry. Those parents who are not attending the game: usually ATT is there and they allow each mid a 1 minute phone call to anywhere. If he or she has a sweetheart...don't expect a call from your mid. It is the start (or continuation) of their adult lives....'rents come after the sweetie. It is hard to imagine your mid would not call you and call another instead, but that is how the cookie crumbles. Several of the men had NAVY Wrestling or NAVY Powerlifting T-shirts on when they arrived. They were then issued Official Tugger long-sleeved T's, and I took a group picture of about 18 of them together. ASK your mid if he/she was tugging, and if he (only the men had come at that point) was in the group picture, and let me know. I would be happy to enlarge your picture and send it to you. I also have pictures of the actual tug, with about 35 mids, male AND female, exerting the ultimate force. WE WON!! Below is the latest from the men's swimming home page. It was an exciting meet for me as my son swam his first individual event is addition to his relays. ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Nov. 20) -- The Navy men's swimming team defeated both Brown and Dartmouth in a double-dual meet held Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall. The Mids defeated Brown, 141-102, and Dartmouth, 201-40. In the other meet, Brown defeated Dartmouth, 174-62. Against Brown, Navy won eight of the 13 events in the meet, which was not decided until the second-to-last event of the day. The Mids won both the 200-meter individual medley and 400-meter freestyle relays to help push Navy to the victory. Other Navy winners included Clint Cornell (Jr., Dickson City, Pa.) in the 50-meter freestyle (23.62), Beau Oliver (Jr., Theodore, Ala.) in the 200-meter individual medley (2:07.10), Jonathan Schiffelbein (Jr., Reston, Va), won the three-meter diving (309.90), Brian Glaser (Sr., Lafayette, Ind.) captured the 100-meter freestyle (51.69), Mike Heiny, Jr. (Fr., Advance, N.C.) in the 200-meter backstroke (2:04.71) and Peter Fehring (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio) won the 200-meter breaststroke (2:27.44). In the dual vs. Dartmouth, Navy captured 12 of the 13 events on the day. In addition to the event winners against Brown, Navy picked up victories against Dartmouth from Tim Ray (So., Rochester, N.Y.) in the 800-meter freestyle (8:30.88), Schiffelbein in the one-meter dive (284.85), Brett Cline (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) in the 200-meter freestyle (1:55.31) and David Krahe (So., Moreland Hills, Ohio) in the 400-meter freestyle (4:03.12). In the Dartmouth-Brown dual, Brown won all 13 events in the victory. Navy (2-0) will next be in action on Fri., Dec. 3, when it hosts Army at Lejeune Hall, beginning at 4 p.m. GO NAVY!! BEAT ARMY!! Our main source of power was from David "no ankles" Stephens. He stepped it up today and assumed the role of goalie. He put the fear of God in 27th company. 27th company had their company officer and chief out their for support and all they got was a "beating" by the 30th company DIRT squad. Kuehne got 27th team upset when he put the smack down on one of their teammates and Gandy followed up on the same kid 5 minutes later. Crofoot and Murray were used on the power plays and came through in the clutch. The offense was powered by Quinlan and Koyama who had 2 and 1 goals respectively. The downfall of the day was that Dobs and Spiros did not get ejected, but there are still games left for everyone to reach their goals. With a 3-1 win 30th company remains undefeated at 3-0. Thursday we have 29th company and can use all the help taunting them as we lay the ultimate smack down on them. Peace out and see you Thursday-- 1/c Olivi "The Dirt will fall on all those who stand in our way" - 30th company Street Hockey~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We have had several calls from Hawaii this weekend from our mid.(love that cell phone!) He said Honolulu was beautiful and they (D&B) got to perform for the CincPac (commander in charge Pacific Theatre) before the game and they had a big tailgate for them there also. They were picked up and taken to church there on Sunday morning, they were taken to the USS Arizona memorial, went snorkeling on Saturday, ate breakfast at McD and had one dinner at Outback on Friday . Some things are the same worldwide! They had a ball obviously even if they did have to spend 11 hours in the air to get there and another 11 back. What a trip and what a great opportunity! So proud for our mids. They work hard and deserve these "little perks!" We did not talk about the score though! Although it must have been a very excitig game! Thanks Mike for the update!
