In the three matches I saw, Navy just blew away their competion. GO NAVY!!! The first match was the men's side A game with Maryland at 9:00 a.m. The weather was cloudy, windy and cool--looked like it might rain but it didn't. The field was very wet from the rain of the previous two days and soon muddy from the playing of the game. When we arrived at 9:15 a. m. the score was 12-0; Navy continued to score I think four more times and shut Maryland out. The second game was the women's side A game against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill(my daughter's alma mater). This was the game I really enjoyed watching the most and what a game the ladies had. They shut down Carolina 56-0, I think. It may have been more but I kind of lost count. The ladies were just awesome! The girls played on a different field than the guys and you should have seen that field. There were three REALLY BIG pools (not puddles) of water on the field and boy what a big splash those girls made when they landed in that water. What a sight! I was able to get a picture of the team after the game and if it turns out good I'll send it along to Sandi and Mike to post on the website if they will. The girls were treated to fruits, bagels, high carb snacks, water and sports drinks by Lindsey Hawkins' (I not really sure of this last name, but some of you will know who I mean) family who came up from Saluda, SC for the game. If Beth's (No. 10--extra point kicker) family is on this listserve, your daughter had a great game--she was all over the field and scored many extra points for the team. The third game we saw was the girls side B team who defeated Virginia Tech. Sorry I don't remember that score. It was a closer game than the earlier game and was not a shut out like the previous two we saw. Our Navy teams really looked good today and I wish them well tomorrow in their championship games. We didn't get to see the other men's games so I can't tell you how the rest of the games turned out today. The afternoon turned sunny and warm (70+ degrees) after the morning dampness and cool temperatures. It was a beautiful day to be outside and I had a great time with my mid and his roommate who talked us into driving 2 1/2 hours to see the rugby teams play. So to all you Rugby parents out there--congratulations. Your sons and daughters were GREAT! GO NAVY! What a match! For starters, last night was Alumni Night, with many Navy wrestling alumni present. The "most seasoned" dating back to the 1930's. They started out asking the wrestlers from the '90's to stand, then the '80's, etc. As each progressive group of wrestlers stood, the applause was even more thunderous than the previous group. It was really an experience to witness. The wrestling match itself was nothing short of spectacular. Navy started off with a 3-0 lead, then a 6-0 lead, the score working its way up to 13-13. Then Navy won the match at 197, making the score 16-13 and Army won the heavyweight match, making the final score 16-16. But the excitement and electricity in the room was like nothing I've ever experienced at a wrestling match. It was wonderful to have tied, as the score could quite possibly have gone either way! If I can do it, anybody can. call me if you have problems. Quick Time is free and good to have if you view clips, videos, etc from the internet. it took me about 5-10 minutes start to finish and doesn't take up that much space on your hard drive.
