This is just a little note intended for Plebe parents who are planning on being at Herndon on May 19th AND their plebes are on one of the Plebe Men's Crew Teams - either lightweight or heavyweight. This does not apply to Women's Crew. I'm not sure if your Plebes have shared this information with you or not, but there is a really big crew regatta called the Eastern Sprints taking place on May 21 (the Sunday after Herndon) on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. The members of the crew teams will be leaving Saturday morning after Herndon (not sure of the exact time but it will be fairly early) to make the trip up to Worcester. The regatta will begin early Sunday morning. It only lasts one day, but it is a long day. This is one of the most important regattas on the East Coast. If you are inclined to adjust your plans to include the trip to Worcester for the Sprints you will not be disappointed. It is a great chance to see your scholar-athlete play with all the big boys...all of the Ivies and a whole host of top notch rowing schools. The spring crew schedule is very limited so you don't get many chances to see them in action, but this would be a great opportunity, since many of you will be headed to the East Coast for Herndon anyway. (PLUS, you might not have realized that your mid will be leaving town early the next day anyway.) We all know how hard members of the crew team work and that they are giving up Spring Breaks to do twice a day practices to prepare for the season. I know they would love your support. We have a small but committed group of crew parents who will be there. We will be setting up a table of goodies to feed the mids (heavyweights eat ALL the time and Lightweights make up for lost time after their weigh-ins!). I know of a certain set of Philadelphia parents (you know who you are!) who contribute delicious (and popular) tomato pie and other Philadelphia goodies! Anyway, let me know if anyone needs more info about this regatta. I know that crew isn't exactly one of the sports that gets a whole lot of press! Row Navy! "Athletes row, others play games."
