The annual Tri-Service powerlifting meet will be held this Saturday, 4
November 2000, in Macdonough Hall (behind the Mid Store). Lifting will start
at 0800 and continue throughout the day. Navy once again has a good chance
to claim the overall trophy for the fifth time (third consecutive).
Navy's womens team is spearheaded by Midn2C Julia Loya, who in September
2000 represented USNA on the US Junior team at the IPF Junior World
championships in Kao Ci, Taiwan. Midn Loya did the US proud by placing FIRST
in her weight class. Her total for the three events was 984 lbs, which was
88 lbs more than her nearest competitor.
The men's team will be looking to several different weight classes to
replace the points normally locked up by last years Firstie, (now a 2nd Lt
in the USMC) Eugene Borrelle, who was on the US team and placed sixth at the
IPF World championships last year. There are several newcomers with
impressive high school/teen lifting records.
Come out and support another USNA club sport if you can.

Greetings Navy Family,

The Navy Skeet and Trap team will be competing in a collegiate
competition this Saturday and Sunday. They will be in Indianapolis,
Indiana. From the sketchy information that I received from my Firstie,
they will be at or near the University of Indiana. The team will be
driving in from Annapolis on Friday and leaving after the competition on
Sunday.

Hopefully there is another net member out there with a mid on this team
that might know more details. If so, would you contact me directly.

We are hoping to go to Princeton on Sunday, November 12 to watch the
plebe oarsmen row in the Belly of the Carnegie. Is anyone else planning
on going? Also, if you are planning to go, could we talk about
providing some food for the weary oarsmen after the race? If so, please
email us and we can see what we can organize. Thank you and we look
forward to hearing from anyone else who might be able to head to
Princeton on Sunday.

Hi to all interested,
Just picked up the November issue of "Ocean
Navigator" with an article and pics of the Mids that
were on the Annapolis to Bermuda race in June on the
"American Promise". The author of the article joined
them on the cruise and taught them navigation and
sailing techniques along the way.
   Enjoy!

Football Fans:
One minute to halftime score at the Tulane game, 7:40 PM EST, is Tulane
35, NAVY 22. Broadwater seems to be back in his old form, rushing is good,
new plays are being tried. Cross your fingers for the second half! OH NO!!
While I was writing, they scored again. Halftime: 42-22.
10 minutes before the end of the game: 50-36. An 81 yard pass by
Broadwater added the last TD. WOW!!! (By the way, just the first 22 is more
points than we have scored in any game this year!) 1 minute 35 seconds to
go: Same score. Penalty too.
Interception in the end zone. No hope......

Sprint Football's last game Friday night, vs. Army: ALAS! We lost
34-21. It was a pretty good game, well played and hard fought. I'll bet
there were at least 1,000 of us in the stands on the Navy side, despite a
chilly wind blowing in from the Bay. Let me tell you in advance that the new
"toy," the Army/Navy bell, which I tried out thinking it was legit because
that's who we were playing, is LOUD. VER-Y LOUD!! And I was the ONLY person
in the stands with one! I cannot imagine what it's going to sound like with
20,000 of us!!!
Mids were dressed in everything from civvies to regulation overcoats.
There were fans in shorts and thin shirts, fans with blankets and hoods.
Fans were freezing and shivering, but some of us with 3-4 layers and stadium
seats were quite comfortable.
I saw one woman with a mink jacket and one with Navy blue and golds, a white
earband, a fuzzy, horned Bill the Goat backpack and Bill the Goat mittens.
Once again, I saw no red/white/blue ribbons. I DID meet some netfolk,
however, at the tailgate.
And WHAT a tailgate it was!!! The parents pulled out the stops. Two
weeks ago there had been a few tables, a few families and only about 50
midshipmen. Last night there were dozens of parents, from many states. They
brought pizzas and hot meatballs and Italian sausages with sauteed veggies
and cookies and brownies and cider and soda and apples and more and more and
more food. Coleman stoves and lanterns and coolers appeared out of station
wagons and rental cars. The mids had lots of choices, lots of food, and
there was always more to be served.
There was a stand with a DJ and every kind of music that young people
like. A whole sorority had been invited, and many girls were there. Someone
had a barrel of ice water and mids were bobbing for apples in the chilly
depths. Wet heads and lots of laughter ensued.
I didn't get home till after midnight, and the party was still going on
when I left. The Tulane game is still on the air - as I said, we're two
touchdowns behind. A sad goodnight, all!

Hello all:
If you are the parent of a Mid on the Sprint Football team, or follow the
team, you might like to see a nice set of pictures of the Army-Navy game
played last Friday. A poster on the Rivals board, who is a West Point grad
posted a link on their message board to some great pictures of the game. To
get to the link, go to http://navymidshipmen.com/ and click on "Message
Board" link on the left side of your screen. When you get to the message
board, scroll down about halfway down the page and you will see a post titled
"Sprint Football, posted by "BeatNavy" (that is his posting name). Below
that post is another post by him with a link to the pictures. They are
pretty good pictures and if you know a player's number, chances are you will
see him (or in the case of kicker Becky Morgan, her). They are digital
pictures and are very clear.

Football Fans:
Sorry to report that the final score was Wake Forest 49, Navy 26. The
last USNA touchdown was made less than 2 seconds before the final cannon -- a
long pass by that young (plebe) quarterback, Mr. Candido, #6, who was so
impressive at the last home game. WATCH FOR HIM next year! He was in for
the entire 4th quarter today, and connected on every pass where a receiver
had made it downfield. He ran for lots of yardage when there was no other
choice, too.
The fans dribbled in, and poured out. The ones who had the best time
were the kids on the hill. That hill must have been SUPER slick today, dry
and fine, because I'll bet there were 200 kids on cardboard and blankets and
just jeans--sliding down, running up and sliding down again.
I met a couple from Texas and a couple from Pennsylvania -- both
netfolk. Only saw ONE other r/w/b ribbon, however. Blue skies, crisp and
COLD - gray by the end of the day. Dozens of tailgates, as usual, with smoke
wafting and mids gathering and munching.
Now I'm waiting for results of the Duke game.......

To all....I have seen this question asked before, but it must have been
answered privately. Is videotaping allowed during the Army/Navy game inside
the stadium? Please respond to the list as I am sure there are more wanting
to know. Thank you in advance.

Well, I hope so....I video taped the last game I went to, including the
march on and the cadence calling. It was soooooo much fun to watch when we
got home. I have never heard anything about video-taping being forbidden.

Dear Fans,

I too was there to witness the game and even sorrier to say that the last
touchdown pass of the final 2 seconds did not count! It was caught out of
bounds. My only consolation was that my 'local' team, West Point also lost this
weekend. West Point's record now stands 1-9 - my husband and I attended that
victory game. It seems that the teams should be well- matched for Army-Navy and
despite their records, it will be an exciting game - hey, maybe we'll have a new
president by then!

Go Navy,
Kathy CullyJ

My Mid was home for Thanksgiving and we were discussing this very detail
because we are going to A/N as well. He had gotten a note from his company
that they had to be with their company ready to form by 8:45 am on the 2nd.
Hope this helps.

My daughter told me during Thanksgiving that 13th Company is supposed to "run
on the ball" at A/N. Everyone said they would watch the game and she said to
look in the back, thats where the shorter members would be.

Hello Navy Family,

As we get ready for the big game this Saturday, please note that the Men's
Swim team is also competing against Army this weekend. The dual meet takes
place tomorrow, Friday, at West Point at 1600. If there are any swim parents
out there planning to attend this meet, please cheer for those of us unable

Just a note about the "other" Navy-Army competition this weekend.

Navy Men's and Women's Swimming will compete at West Point for the N-Star on
Thursday and Friday.

Navy men's swimming holds the longest varsity unbeaten streak against army
with nine straight in a row. Tomorrow (Friday) at 4pm they will go for ten
straight. It should be close but Navy will do their best.

We will go to West Point tomorrow afternoon and than leave after the meet
straight for Baltimore. We look forward to seeing all Navy swim parent's at
the meet and at the game.
