My son, who is one of the managers called from the post
game tailgate party and said that they won. He did not say
what the score was.

Everyone is welcome to the "Belly of the Carnegie" on Sunday, Nov. 11th. at
Princeton University. Our plebe rowers could use any and all support! Let's
cheer them on! The heavyweight and lightweight plebe men's and
women's novice team have been working hard, and did very well at the Head of
the Schuylkill.
We will be having a tailgate to feed all those hungry plebes, and all
families and friends. If you would be able and willing to donate any food
item or drinks, please contact me by email so we can plan our menu. This is
the last regatta for the fall season, so let's make it a good one!
GO NAVY!

Dear Navy Family,

I gave some misinformation on this page...the Anthracite bowl was last month
in Pa, this game against Army is called the North Star game, and it is at
West Point, NY at Shea Stadium and it is for the CSFL chanmpionship, and if
we win, our players will receive a Navy letter with a star on it, thus it is
called the "North Star Game", So...that is the correct scoop. Wish I could
see it, and again, please post the score if you can.

Just found this on the Navy Sports Web page. Thought I'd share, as the first
viewing is tonight.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-The Naval Academy will be a regular part of ESPN's feature on
college football "The Rites of Autumn". The eight-part series will take a
look at the history and pageantry of college football. Episode two, which is
called "Passion and Pageantry ", will include the Army-Navy game and the
post-game singing of the two alma maters. The one-hour show airs Friday night
at 7 p.m. on ESPN and again on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 3-4 p.m. on ESPN2.

Enjoy - Diane Gorsky, Lora 03/15, Bound Brook, NJ

Dear Navy Parents,

The Navy sprint football team defeated Army 17-10 in overtime to become the
Collegiate Sprint Football League Champs! My son was quite excited when he
called and said that he was having a ball. I said "So West Point is fun?"
and he said "No,we brought the fun with us, the NAvy Parents up here are
giving us a great party!" Thank you parents, wish I was there.

TEri Sweatman...

Dan, '03, sprint football

Wish I could say the same for the score. We lost, 42-28. It was very
disappointing, especially since the day was SO outstanding otherwise. The
sun was golden and the weather warm. The sky was blue and the mids were VERY
relaxed during the march-on. No flyover today, however.

The first 1,000 kids who entered got a bobble-headed Bill the Goat doll,
according to the signs, but I never saw one. There was a stand selling some
kind of Icy Krispies, which look like tiny purple and green (not kidding!)
balls of ice cream, mixed in a cup. The balloon-twisting man was working
overtime and his rubber "sculptures" were seen everywhere. Dozens and dozens
of little kids had cardboard box sides for the sliding down hill -- more than
I have ever seen. Tailgaters were everywhere - before, during and after the
game.

Security was evident, but not as intense as before. Guards with wands at
every entrance, spot checks, no food or beverages allowed to be carried in
from outside.

A 1997 grad (SWO, Norfolk) and her husband usually sit behind us. Today, she
brought a 2000 grad who is piloting helicopters in Flight School. LOVES her
job!! We sit near the Visiting Team's stands, and whenever Tulane made a
touchdown, they all recited a strange chant -- it sounded like nonsense
syllables. I overheard one of them telling someone that even Tulane grads
have NO IDEA what it means or where it started! They did not bring any
cheerleaders along, though.

I met a number of parents I know from the net and from sponsoring. PLEASE,
folks, WEAR YOUR RED/WHITE/BLUE RIBBONS when you are coming to the Army
game!! (Not a bad idea for Notre Dame, either.) It's so much easier for us
to recognize and meet each
other!!

The last homegame tailgate of the 2001 season. The last tailgate at
Navy/Marine Corps Stadium for our Firsties. Second Class got their 2-for-7
mugs today, too. (Traditionally, "2-for-7" is the signing of the pledge, by
2nd Class, that they will continue with their Naval careers -- finish their
last 2 years at the Academy, and go out and serve in the Fleet for 5 years
after that.

In the past, it was celebrated with a party, at which each member of the
class received a beer mug and contents to fill it. For several years now, no
alcohol has been served to those under 21 at the 2-for-7 party. But everyone
gets the mug. 2003's is pewter, with the Class Crest on one side, USNA Crest
on the other.

At one company tailgate, members of the Sprint Football team, returning
elated from their victory at West Point, told excitedly of the game. Last
year's company Chief came back, with a group of high school ROTC students he
is leading - maybe they were Sea Cadets, come to think of it. 1st and 2nd
Class mids arrived in civvies. My guest and I talked with them about
kayaking and systems engineering projects and plans for Spring Break. There
were lots of girls and girlfriends around today -- I had spoken with 2 from
Penn State while waiting in the entrance line -- but not as many parents as
at the Rice game.

At another company tailgate, I had a nice chat with Mike and Sandi, who were
down for probably the last time until our party at Buddy's next Spring. This
tailgate was sponsored by the Class of 196x and had live music, table after
table after table of food, and even a birthday cake for the Marine Corps.
Plus lots of alums and their spouses and families, returning to celebrate.

It's getting dark quite early now, as we approach the equinox. There was a
chill in the air when we walked home, and the leaves were dry and brown under
our feet -- the result of no rain for weeks and weeks. The town is still
full of tourists, but we had no wait for a table at a restaurant near the
harbor. Several of our party opted for ice cream, and licked the cold stuff
as we walked by the "Pride of Baltimore," a reproduction 2-masted schooner
anchored there for part of this week. I'll try to take the Sponsor Grandma
to see her as she leaves on Thursday, hoping that the sails will be unfurled
and we'll witness a little piece of history in action.

Plebes have off until 10 tonight and tomorrow, and there are no classes on
Monday because of the Federal Holiday. Maybe some of the boys will come over
to watch a game or indulge in some home cooking this weekend. I've been away
and have missed them.

we traveled up to fresno, Calif (from the Orange County area, near

(a very tough team), but Navy wrestling ended up winning three & only losing
to Fresno State. The boys are very appreciative of any fans and always
thank us for coming & showing support.

Plebe and 1st year Crew members of the HEAVYWEIGHT, LIGHTWEIGHT, and WOMENS
team took FIRST first place in the Princeton University's "BELLY of the
CARNEGIE" race, Sunday, Nov. 11. It was a beautiful day with a brisk
breeze. A nice tailgate spead was provided for the team by the local
parents. Chili, stew, tomato pie, subs were provided by the parents.
Desserts included homemade cookies and cakes as well as fresh fruit and power
bars.
A great time was had by all especially because of the win. This was the
first time NAVY had won this race. Princeton had the most wins since the
inception of the race. The team and coaches thanked us profusedly. I' ve
never met a more grateful bunch of kids.

CONGRATS TO ALL!!

It was indeed disappointing to not have a flyover on such a perfect day
weatherwise. I always wonder about the reason when there isn't a flyover,
but it seems to be a secret since there is never any mention of it. I think
it would take some of the sting out of it if they would just make a brief
announcement 10 or 15 minutes before the start of the game that there will
be no flyover. As it is, the anticipation builds until kickoff and then
there's a big letdown.

Of course, as my son mentioned, after last years "fly through" most of the
flyovers seem pretty boring now...

We're going to the game. My daughter is a senior at ND and her brother
and his roomates, all USNA Class '04, will be on the move order with the
Brigade. Rachel assures me that she can provide some local hospitality
for the mids when they arrive Friday morning in South Bend.

Can't wait. In tow with me, will be ten family and friends, including
USNA '63, ND 81, UNM '90, NMSU '91 etc.

If anyone is planning to attend the wrestling matches this Saturday
(11/17/01),
and will be video taping, please let me know. Jarrod Rothman (141 lbs),
we hope, will do some wrestling during the meet. I'm not sure if the
frosh/soph wrestlers will be involved. If anyone knows for sure, please
let me know that also.

Thanks in advance.

I rcvd my two tickets in the mail today..and I checked the seating chart for
Veteran's Stadium. I'm in the last row...what's up with that? My son stood
in line all morning (for 4 hrs) on the first day of the ticket sale. How did
I get such horrible seats? I would like to at least see the game next
year...please give me helpful hints on getting tolerable seats in the future.
 These tickets are not cheap.
Thanks..

It is 7am here on the East Coast....and we are still ahead... but not by
much.. and don't forget... this vote goes on til the 19th! So.....vote and
vote often...
A hint for those of you on AOL (I don't know if it will work on others)....
if you go to www.tostitos.com the screen that comes up is the one with the
contest in the middle... clic on that and vote.... the next page that comes
up is the entry form for the tailgate (not our best rivalry).... you do not
have to enter...and as a matter of fact... if you X out the box (the little x
in the upper right hand corner) it will take you right back to the original
screen and you can vote again.... I've been known to sit here and cast 10
ballots! If you want to know what the standings are.... when the second
screen comes up...scroll to the bottom and there is a link to the results...
keep up the good work!

Re: Last row seats.
We know the feeling. Last year we went through the same thing, even though my
Mid was reminded to go early and pick up tickets so we could leave the
grappling hook and climbing equipment at home.
Well, you guessed it, we were on the top row at Ravens Stadium in Baltimore,
along with a bunch of other good natured, yet bewildered parents. The air up
there wasn't too bad, just very cold and windy, so dress warmly. We tipped
the concession guy well, so he would be sure to scale Everest regularly, as
we needed the hot chocolate and coffee to fight of the chill.
We did have a very nice view of the city of Baltimore and the inner harbor
area, and enjoyed the march on, more from outside the stadium since we could
look straight down and see the Mids and Cadets on the street.
We also had great views of the fly-by, and the jumpers, since we were so
close to them when they leapt out to parachute down onto the field. The
pilots were so close we could wave to them!
Oh, and the birds flying close by were a nice touch as well.
We figured the Mid would want to talk to us at some point during the game, so
I saved my cell phone battery so he could enjoy the thrill of the climb and
the great view once he found us. He thought the air was a little thin, but I
did give him my seat to let him catch his breath.
Afterwards we met up with the sponsor family, for whom he had also gotten
tickets. They were seated on the club level, nice and warm.
This year, as he is 2/c and very busy, and to save him the time of having to
stand in line, I ordered tickets via the Athletic association, which I joined
after last year's game.
We should be closer to earth; if not, we'll at least be there cheering, like
before. All of that jumping up and down does help keep one warm.
GO NAVY!

Fair Winds and Following seas!

Hey:

As a first time atendee to an Army/Navy game can anyone tell me what
side of the stadium(Gate or Section) that the Mids will be seated at or the
plebes.

Just got our tickets in Section 650, Second Row--seems we are at the
corner of the field but how high up is that?

Everyone I have hearing from seems to be high up why is that? I put
in for these tickets back in early July so is it the luck of the draw or all
plebe parents placed in a certian location?

Also we are in New Orleans, and used to the enclosed Superdome, so
just how cold does it get in the Vets Stadium around Dec 1?

I wonder if the gates are opening at 8 a.m. and the march on is for 9
a.m. how in the world do they figure anyone will get through the gates in
time to see the march on! And does anyone know what gates they march on
through?

So if anyone knows the answers to any of my 20 questions please post
as I am sure there are a few more parents out there in the dark whowant to
find out more info!

Thanks,
Webster Veade

The half time show and all the mids

had a great attitude and was a really fun crowd to
watch the game with. You sit and make introductions
and then nobodys a stranger.

I also vote for staying warm. WEAR AND BRING ALL THE
SKI CLOTHES YOU OWN AND A BLANKET. Also, an
insulated or thermal cup to pour your coffee or hot
chocolate into to keep it hot while you sip is an
excellent item. Bring all of it, even if you need an

How COLD can it get at the Army Navy Game?

It could be 68 and sunny enough to give you a sun burn OR it could be 28
with a wind chill below zero. This is December. Anything goes. Then let's
not forget the possibility of rain, freezing rain, sleet, or snow.

The past few games have varied all over the spectrum. Your best bet is to
check the weather forecast on the internet just before you pack and pack
accordingly. Always leave a little room for "weather forecaster error."

You can find the local Philly area weather forecast at...

HI all,
I just got my tickets today. They are in the nosebleed section and I'm upset
that they are not together. 2 are on one endzone and the other 2 are on the
other endzone. We are travelling from South Florida and my sister and her
husband live in New Jersey. We were hoping to socialize along with watching
the game. We are all the way at the top of the stadium and it could be very
cold up there. The stadium is near the water and Philly is a windy city
anyway. It is not enclosed like the Astrodome. The mids sit down close to
the field, they don't know yet which side but it is close to the 50 yd. line.
I don't know which gate they march on from, maybe the mids could find that
out. I am planning to send my mid the section and seat numbers that we will
be occupying so that she can visit us.

I received my son's graduation pictures today. As I had lost his Plebe
pictures (I received them as we sold our house, celebrated Thanksgiving,
celebrated Christmas and personally packed up our home of 16-1/2 years --
that's my excuse and I am sticking to it) -- I am holding onto these and
ordering as soon as my husband gives me his input (as if I'll listen but
when I ask, it makes him feel good!)

I don't know if the pictures automatically to all parents -- which is the
reason for my alert. Just know that they have been sent!

Thanks for the post about Navy basketball.
Our Texas Gulf Coast Parents Club has a little something planned for before
the Rice game.
I plan to be there with the camera, and my yell voice on. So if you hear
about the super fan cheering with the blue and gold pom poms, smile.

No worries; I'll get my voice back in time for Army/NAVY in 2 weeks and 2
wake ups!
(We're still ahead in the voting - HOO-RAH!)

GO NAVY!

Just thought I'd mention, our first Army/Navy game was in 1998, our first
Mid's plebe year also played in Philly. We were in the very top row of the
end zone across the entire field from the Mids and the Cadets. Not only
could we see absolutely everything which went on, we were among the very few
who did not get soaked by rain nor did we freeze, as it was nicely protected
from the elements, wind, rain and even some sleet! Like beauty and the
beholder........the goodness of your seat is in the eye of the sitter!!

A few weeks ago I begged for advice...this California born and raised mom is
traveling to Philly for the game...and I hadn't a clue how to pack. I got a
huge response with some great advice that I'm sure will be of help to
others...I CAN'T possibly be the only one who is clueless on this issue! :)

I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can at the game...look for the
woman, dark hair, 5'3", looking like she's wearing everything from her
closet...just in case!

Am I unduly concerned, or am I the only one down south who hasn't recieved
the A/N tickets yet? I am assuming because of snail mail, that is the reason
for the delay. Hope so.

I was wondering what people would advise on transportation to the stadium if
you are flying into Philadelphia and also plan to take your plebe somewhere
after the game. Is it better to bring a car to the stadium or are buses by
far better - and are there buses that go there from most of the hotels?

I have never been to Philadelphia - so I have no clue.
Thanks

>From a USNA Foundation Update:

     Navy/Army Game - December 1, 2001: Don't panic if you have not
received our tickets, all tickets should be in the mail by the 14th. If you
do not have them by the 20th, I recommend that you contact NAAA at
1-800-US4-NAVY. Tickets come with a brochure and the below information.
Please give yourself plenty of time as new procedures will slow stadium
entry and could cause considerable delays.

 ARMY-NAVY 2001 GAME INFORMATION

Thank you for purchasing tickets for the 2001 Army-Navy game, to be
played on December 1, at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, PA. America's
greatest football rivalry will be played this year under changed conditions
in the areas of security and stadium access. Please read this information
sheet carefully, as it contains key material on a variety of important
subjects that have a direct impact on this year's game.

SECURITY: All fans in attendance will be subject to increased security
measure when entering Veterans Stadium. Please plan to arrive earlier than
normal for the game, as enhanced security measure will delay access to the
stadium.

PROHIBITED ITEMS: bags and containers of any kind, type or size including
backpacks and fanny packs, coolers, umbrellas, strollers, large camera and
video bags.

PERMITTED ITEMS: purses smaller than 8" x 11", blankets, seat cushions, and
small hand-held cameras.

RE-ENTRY/PASS-OUTS: Once fans have passed through security areas, re-entry
to Veterans Stadium will not be permitted. Once fans exit the stadium, they
may NOT re-enter under any circumstances.

ARMY-NAVY 2001 IMPORTANT TIMES

PARKING: The cost will be $10 for cars and $19 for oversized vehicles
GATES OPEN: 8:00 a.m., at this time all Veterans Stadium fan services,
including concessions, will be operational.
MARCH ON: 9:00 A.M. FOR navy and 9:36 a.m. for Army.
KICKOFF: 11:45 a.m. EST and will be broadcast nationally by CBS.
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS: 1-800-US4-NAVY

LOST TICKETS WILL NOT BE REPLACED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

Ticket holders are strongly advised to keep their tickets in a secure
location. Lost, forgotten, misplaced, mutilated, washed, or tickets
otherwise damaged beyond recognition will not be replaced.

In the event that tickets are stolen, contact your local police
department. After filing a stolen property report, contact the ticket
office from which the tickets were originally purchased. Only the ticket
holder of record is authorized to receive game-day replacement passes for
stolen tickets. A non-refundable deposit equal to the face value of the
stolen ticket(s) will be charged. The USNA, Philadelphia Phillies, and
Veterans Stadium reserve the right to deny any ticket replacement request
due to theft.

NOTICE TO ALL TICKET HOLDERS
NO REFUNDS - NO EXCHANGES

Every person regardless of age requires a valid ticket of admission.
The sale or attempted resale of this ticket is grounds for cancellation
without notice or compensation. It is illegal, regardless of price, to sell
or attempt to sell these tickets ON VETERANS STADIUM PROPERTY. Those
attempting to do so will be removed and prosecuted. Spectators may not
engage in the following: gambling, promotion of political or race-related
materials, sale of unauthorized goods or services, conduct which may
obstruct the view of other spectators, display of commercial or offensive
signage, display flags of non-participating teams or countries, possess
fireworks, flammable items, or any other item deemed by management to
compromise the safety and enjoyment of any fan. Management reserves the
right to refuse admission to, or eject any person whose conduct or action is
deemed by management to be disorderly or in breach of Department of Defense,
Academy, Philadelphia Phillies, or Veterans Stadium rules and/or security
instructions.

Hey Navy Family,
It was a good game, yet we were not victorious. Final score Rice 75, NAVY 72.
Despite a loss in the season opener, I have great hopes for our team, as we
were down by as much as 12 points with 1:19 left, managed to pull within 3 in
the last 22 seconds, and came very close to tying the game and forcing an OT
in the final 7 seconds. Our free throws were falling as well. GO NAVY!
I'll try to get the pictures to Sandi tomorrow; photographing basketball is a
challenge.

Good showing by the Parents club as well; friends came and brought their
middle school daughters, who are cheerleaders, and they helped us cheer our
Midshipmen almost to victory.
To our north Texas neighbors, please get out there Sunday and let our team
know we're with them. GO NAVY! BEAT SMU!

For my fellow Southerners, we got our Army/NAVY tickets this morning, so
yours are on the way.
We have been very blessed and can leave the oxygen at home - lower stands
between 10 and 20 yd line.
Thank you Joyce for the wonderful advice last year to join the Athletic
Association!
2 weeks and a wake up to Philly!
GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
