However, he also insisted that they were made out of a special material called "suplex" that allows them to dry very quickly. She purchased them at the mall in Annapolis, but other sporting goods stores carry them as well. They are expensive, but Mollie said that they were envied by everyone on board! As far as the wet suit, he suggests searching the web possibly under, Big Winds. However, it is very important to have a good fit in a wet suit and to also know what kind of water you are going to be in. It may be wise to give your daughter a gift certificate so she could try on the various types. Binoculars are also a great idea. (Sorry!) Navy's Women's swim team beat Army Thursday evening for the 13th straight time, by a score of 196 to 104. This is the 3rd highest score in the 21 year series! Unlike prior years, it was not a close contest. Our talented mids pulled out in front and stayed in front, winning 12 of the 16 events. We saw a wonderful variety of races. In some races Navy won by several body lengths, in others Navy held on to a lead to win by a finger's length. Then there were those wonderful races where Navy set two new pool records (including one that was previously held by an Army swimmer!) We had so much fun Thursday night that we returned on Friday night to cheer on Men's swimming in their contest against Army. Men's swimming routed Army, with a score of 160-83, their 12th straight win over Army. Once again, it was not a close contest. Our team pulled ahead and stayed ahead, winning 10 of the 13 events. Again, some of the races were so close that only the electronic scoring system could tell who finished first, and others were not close at all. Both had the crowd in a frenzy. Both the men's and women's team have a lot of young talent, which gives us a good chance of beating that other school again next year! Go Navy! A team featured will be USNA grads, with Eric Kapitulik (Capt., Marines, USNA 1992, now stationed in USNA admissions), two other male grads and a female grad. During the Army/Navy game, we visited with Eric, and he reports that it will be a great show, and that he was travelling to NYC this week to do promo spots for the show. He flashed his broad smile when I mentioned that he was becoming more of a TV star than a military man (he was featured in the 2001 Iron Man Hawaii 2 weeks ago). Though it appears I am quickly becoming his big cheer leader(!!!), I admire the way he handles his persona, his sense of duty, and his gratitude for what the academy and military life have taught him. Like the true Academy fanatic I've become, I taped CBS' coverage of the game in addition to packing up and heading East to see it live. A really good digital watch that has integrated tide tables and digital compass. There are a couple of good ones out there, including one that has an altimeter as well. Hearkening back to "the old days" a sextant / azimuth / compass set -- you can even find "antique" Navy ones -- for a really amazing picture of the scope of what's out there on the market (as well as prices) check eBay and search for any of the three terms. Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer (.826, 95-20) ranks a distant second. Since Johnson took over as head coach at Georgia Southern in 1997, he has returned the Eagles to national prominence - statistically and in the won-lost ledger. In addition to Georgia Southern's 62-9 mark, the Eagles have scored 2,838 points (40 points per game), picked up 25,757 rushing yards (362.8 yards per game), 7,721 passing yards (108.7 yards per game) and 33,478 total yards (471.5 yards per game). Not only did the 27-25 victory give Georgia Southern its second straight national title, but it was Johnson's 50th career win in four seasons. Fullback Adrian Peterson has rushed for 6,668 yards in his career, which is the most in the history of Division I football. Although lost at times in the glitz and glamour of Johnson's explosive offensive unit, Georgia Southern has also had an excellent defense. This year's Eagles defense could rank as the best ever at Georgia Southern as it ranks in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense (fourth), total defense (sixth) and pass defense (second). The defense has allowed just 12 points per game in 2001, a school record. Johnson was Navy's offensive coordinator in 1995 and 1996 and his spread offense made an immediate impact as the offense broke five school records during the Mids' five-win season in 1995, equaling the most wins by a Navy team since 1990. Navy came back in year two under Johnson and exploded, posting a 9-3 record, including a 42-38 victory over California in the Aloha Bowl.
