Last weekend Navy Womens Rugby took 2nd place in the Mid-Atlantic
Region. They played at Princeton University against first place
Princeton. Navy won in double overtime. They lost
their second game to Penn State. This still qualified them for the
Sweet Sixteen tournament in Orlando, Florida on April 20-21. Any Navy
supporters are welcomed to join us in cheering them on at the Seminole
Training Facility. See the tournament website at www.usarugby.net for more
info.

IF Army and Navy play rugby this weekend, it won't be on the Yard. The
tournament they're both involved in the Cherry Blossom Tournament in
Washington, DC, in the past held somewhere near the Lincoln Memorial end of
the Mall (I think). I'm not sure that they will end up playing each other,
though - different "pools," I think.

Info from the rugby team webpage www.nadn.navy.mil/Rugby/.

"Cherry Blossom Tourney April 6-7 on the mall in DC.

20 Minute Halves
5 Minute Half Time
5 Minutes Between Games

Total Game Length 0:45

Break 0:05

First Match Saturday 0730, field 1, American University
Second match Saturday 1050, field 5, Mary Washington

Saturday games are at Rosecroft Raceway, Sunday on the Mall."

(The information above - in quotes - was "cut and pasted" from the rugby
webpage.)

The internet says Rosecroft Raceway is at 6336 Rosecroft Drive, Ft.
Washington, MD 20744, Beltway Exit 4A, (301) 567-4000, so I assume that
means that the Saturday games aren't on the Mall.

Full schedules can be found at www.washingtonrugbyclub.org/. Best of luck
figuring them out, though.

Sorry for the confusion, but the available information on the various sites
isn't very clear.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know I've just had the best weekend in a long
time! Navy's Women's Crew team was in San Diego for the Crew Classic...I had
the pleasure of helping at the hospitality tent for Navy both yesterday and
today.

Navy's women are wonderful competitors, bright, confident, and all such very
sweet young women. To all of the wonderful parents who have helped raise
these young women, job well done...and thank you for sharing them with the
rest of us!

The Navy Men's Rugby team won all their games at this weekend's Cherry
Blossom Festival Tournament, held in/around Washington, DC. Included were
wins over both the Army "A" side (ranked 4th nationally) and "B" side and
Ohio State (ranked 8th nationally) by a score of 12-0.

Navy now enters the Sweet 16, to be held on 4/20-21 at Penn State, where
they will play Indiana University of Pennsylvania and, if they win, the
winner of the match between the Univ. of Connecticut and the #1 seed from
the West (probably Wyoming or Air Force) for a position in the Final Four,
to be held at Virginia Beach on 5/4-5.

The Navy Women's team will also be participating in the Sweet 16, to be held
at Orlando, FL, on the weekend of 4/20-21.

JV games aren't covered by Navy Sports but I thought you might like to know
that they played the Napsters in a double-header on Saturday and won both.
The played Prince George's Comm. College on Sunday and won that one as well.
They defeated St. Joseph, NY in their opener; then went on to defeat a local
high school and suffer two losses to Allegeheny CC, VA before taking on the
Napsters. From all reports they feel they are a strong team and are having
loads of fun playing the game they love!

Hi Navy Family,

We had the wonderful opportunity to attend "most" of the Occoquan
Sprints on Sunday, April 7th. Navy lightweight crew outdid itself
competing against heavyweight crew teams from area colleges. It was a
breezy but sunny day to enjoy the competition. Our sons looked relaxed
and ready to enjoy the day. Lightweight crew is looking forward to an
excellent crew season. We also had the opportunity to meet several other
lightweight crew parents as we cheered on Navy.

Note: I used the word "most" because we had to return to BWI to make our
7:30 pm flight home. We had wanted to see Eric in the MV8 boat race
its heat. Unfortunately we missed his final race- but the good news was
that his boat came in first quite easily with USNA B right behind in
second.

Go Navy Lightweight Crew!

Hi Navy Family,

Heard from our son Eric... Navy ran over Princeton today with only one
boat not winning, but giving it their best. Eric noted that you could
feel the confidence that crew felt before the races and the pride they
felt as they beat Princeton.

Congrats to our fine sons. And thanks to those crew parents who cheered
them on and fed them so well.

Cheering from a distance,

Well, the JV team has done it again! They dominated the Sunday, April 14th
double-header against a Delaware team. Reports are that they are having fun
and are working well together as a team.

Five-Goal Third Period Propels No. 15 Navy Lacrosse To
Victory

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The 15th-ranked Navy lacrosse team
scored five
goals
in the third period, sparking the Mids to a crucial 9-
7 victory
over
ECAC rival and 17th-ranked Penn State before 2,068
fans at
Navy-Marine
Corps Memorial Stadium Friday night.

"We had a very good effort tonight," said Navy (5-3, 3-
2 ECAC)
head
coach Richie Meade. "Our defense did a remarkable job
by holding
Penn
State's offense to seven goals. We took control of the
game in
the third
period, and I don't think we felt like they would come
back on
us."

Navy's Adam Reel (So./Hampstead, N.H.) opened the
scoring 7:59
into the
game when he fired an unassisted tally past Nittany
Lions (5-5,
0-4
ECAC) goalkeeper Chris Garrity -- an Annapolis native.

Penn State's Sean Droogan knotted the game at 1-1 with
4:24
remaining in
the opening frame, and neither team would score again
for the
next
14-plus minutes.

Joe Bossi (So./Skaneateles, N.Y.) scored on a Graham
Gill
(Fr./Medford,
N.J.) pass with 4:27 to in the first half to put the
Mids ahead,
2-1.
However, Nittany Lions freshman Will Jones tallied
just 46
seconds later
to tie the game at two goals apiece before halftime.

Navy began its five-goal third period just 17 seconds
in when
defenseman
Marshall Croft (Sr./Richmond, Va.) scored on his first-
career
shot. Team
captain Eddie McKinnon (Sr./Davidsonville, Md.) upped
the Mids'
lead to
4-2 46 seconds later on Greg Conklin's (Jr./Syracuse,
N.Y.)
first-of-three assists on the evening.

McKinnon scored Navy's third-consecutive goal with
7:32 to go in
the
third off a pass from Dan Neverosky (Jr./Blue Bell,
Pa.) to put
the Mids
up 5-2 before Penn State's Will Driscoll stopped the
run with a
tally of
his own nine seconds later. Navy's Dan Kretz (Jr./East
Setauket,
N.Y.)
scored with 5:48 to go in the period on a Conklin
pass, and Ben
Bailey
(So./Memphis, Tenn.) completed the Midshipmen's third-
period
romp with
an unassisted tally exactly two minutes later.

Driscoll scored the second of his four goals on the
night 33
seconds
into the fourth period to slice Navy's lead to 7-4.
Conklin
scored on a
set-up from Bailey 22 seconds later to push the Navy
lead back
to four.
However, PSU's Tim Emmick scored an extra-man goal
with 9:22
remaining
to cut the Mids' lead to 8-5.

McKinnon completed his hat trick one minute later off
a Conklin
pass to
put his team up 9-5. Driscoll tallied twice more, once
with 6:34
remaining and once with 3:31 to go in the game, to
pull the
Nittany
Lions to within two goals (9-7) of Navy. But the Navy
defense,
led by
back-to-back saves by Kelly Award candidate Jon Higdon
(Sr./Edgewater,
Md.), held the visitors scoreless the rest of the way.

A great deal of the Mids' success in their traditional
possession
offense can be attributed to the face-off skills of
junior Chris
Dingman
(Deferiet, N.Y.). Dingman, who entered the game as the
country's
19th-leading draw man, won 14 of his 18 draws on the
night --
including
10-of-13 in the second half.

"Chris did a great job facing off tonight," said
Meade, whose
team next
plays Tuesday afternoon at Mount St. Mary's (4
p.m.). "He has
been
really focused in that department this year, and
(assistant
coach) Mark
Goers has done a tremendous job in helping him out.
Chris will
be a big
part of our game strength for the rest of the season
if he can
continue
at this pace."

Higdon turned aside 11 shots in picking up his sixth
victory of
the
season, while Garrity made 13 stops for the Nittany
Lions.

With McKinnon's three goals, he now has 72 goals and
43 assists
in his
Navy career. His 115 points tie him with Karl
Rippelmeyer
(1958-60) for
16th on the school's all-time scoring list. Ironically,
Rippelmeyer also
registered 72 goals and 43 assists during his time in
the Navy
Blue and
Gold.

The JV baseball team continue thier winning streak by beating their arch
rivals, Anne Arundel C.C. on Monday by one run. The 7th inning was a thriller
for the junior Mid team as they came from behind with a single, a bunt, a
sacrifice fly and a base hit, bringing home the winning run. They play again

The USNA Women's Fastpitch Softball team is heading to NATIONALS tomorrow!
They are going to play at the Miami of Ohio College in Cincinnatti, Ohio
Friday-Sunday. They are 11-3, which is amazing since they are only a club
team and play colleges who have women specifically recruited for softball!
If anyone wants to cheer them on, I'm sure they would appreciate it!

Subject: Navy in 2002 Nat'l Triathlon Meet

Hi Mike, Would you please forward this message to the parent's group and
sports group? Lt Col Stooksbury would love to see Navy supporters to cheer
the midshipmen. I cannot send it as I can not have this email address sent
to group, and I don't belong to the sports group. Thanks

The Navy Triathlon Team will be participating in the 2002 National
Collegiate Triathlon Championships at Shelby Farms in Memphis, TN this
Saturday, April 20th at 0900. The first wave starts at 0900, with following
waves of 60 every 10 minutes. You can recognize Navy guys/girls easily
because they will be in Navy tri-suits.

The olympic distance race will consist of a 1.5km swim in the Patriot Lake,
followed by the 40km bike on city streets that surround Shelby Farms, and
finally a 10km run on paved bike and walking paths inside Shelby Farms.

If you live in the Memphis area the midshipmen would love to see you come
out and cheer them on!

GO NAVY!

Tomorrow they will be playing at Rumpke Field at 10795 Hughes Rd. in

THis just in from a van traveling from Cincinnatti to Annapolis...
After winning their first three games at the National Tournament in
Cincinnatti, the Navy women lost their next game and had to fight their way
back through the Losers bracket.
Saturday they played six games to work their way into the Championship
game! A couple of games were rained out on Friday, making more games take
place on Saturday.
Sadly, the women were so exhausted by the time they got to the
Championship game, that they couldn't pull off the final win. Mollie stated,
"This tournment was worse than going through sea trials; so in a way, sea
trials prepared us for this endeavor!"
VA Tech ended up taking first place in a hard fought Championship game
and Navy placed 2nd! Air Force was knocked out of the tournament on the
first day of tournament play, so for our women to hang in there 'til the end
was quite an accomplishment!
"Semper Fi, Do or die!" was their cheer! WAY TO GO!
GO NAVY!

Dear Navy family--
As was previously stated the Navy Women's Rugby team won both their
games this past weekend in Orlando, Florida. Navy vs New Mexico 28-25
and Navy vs. Marquette 20-15. The weather was very hot--close to 90
degrees both days. Both games were also back and forth and the outcome
was determined during the last minutes of the game. They now will be in
the Final Four to be played May 4 & 5 in Blaine, Minnesota(just north of
Minneapolis). We would certainly encourage any parents of Mids(not just
parents of ruggers) in that area to attend and support the team. I'll
keep you posted on times and specific locations as it gets closer.

Now a big thank you to the Central Florida Parent's Club who not only
brought many fans to the games, but supported the team with water, ice,
gatorade, and food! You guys are terrific! The ruggers couldn't
believe they had so many fans, and so much support. Thank you so
much!!!!!

Go Navy

Collegiate Triathlon Nationals were held this past Saturday in Memphis, TN,
with some 80 colleges competing for the National title, including Army, Air
Force and Coast Guard. It was a great day for Navy...the men WON the
Nationals, with the top 3 scorers all 2nd Class mids... Tim O'Donnell, Bill
Uffman, Bryan Scullin. The women also had a young team, with 3rd Class
Melanie Cooper, Caitlin Decker, and 2nd Class Leslie Esher scoring to take
tenth place. Combined, they took 7th place. Results can be found at
www.collegetri.com
The team presented the NC trophy to the DANT today at noon meal. He was very
complimentary. I will gather some photos of the event and submit them for all
to see.
