The Navy hockey team was back on the ice this weekend to face Drexel in a home-and-home series.
Saturday night in Philadelphia the Dragons exploded for 5 goals in the second period on there way to a 7-3 win over the Midshipmen. Navy looked a little rusty but were able to shake it off before Sunday afternoon's game at Dahlgren Hall.
With an outstanding team effort Navy was able to get the 2 points for the win with a 4-1 decision.
Goalie Matt Collinsworth anchored the solid defensive performance.
Next weekend the Midshipmen head to Rhode Island for 2 games against a tough Rams team.

Navy opens up its 2003 Season in Jacksonville, Fla. Feb 7-9 playing U. of N.
Fla. I would imagine the team will be staying at the Naval Air Base, so
we're wondering what others would suggest for lodging. There's quite a
distance between the NAS and U. of N. Fa. where I expect the games to be
played.

The Navy Hockey team spent the weekend in Rhode Island and came away with a split against the Rams.
The 19th ranked Midshipmen won 5-4 on Saturday evening but fell to the 14th ranked Rams in ECHA League action.
Both teams are trying to hold on to one of the top six positions in order to qualify for the playoffs.

My understanding is that we play Army at WP on Jan. 31, 2003 with the
Women's game starting at 6PM,with the Men's game to follow. Here are my
questions:
1. How much are tickets and do we need to get them in advance?

2. Is there a Navy section we should ask for?

3. Do Mids attending for cheering purposes stay over until Saturday or do
the buses return to USNA Friday night?

4. How much time can we expect to spend with our Mids on Friday night?

I have attended the Army-Navy basketball game at West Point every year for the
last 9 years. There is a section for Navy fans - request it at the ticket
office. I have ordered tickets in advance through West Point ticket office
(telephone order) and have purchased them at the office right before the game.
In my experience, it didn't make a bit of difference. We have often thought it
depended on the mood of the ticket selling official.

When my son came up for the game (West Point is my 'local' college), he did
stay over one year and one year he didn't. Your mid will know what the deal is
- why don't you check with him ? Some upper class have actually sat with their
parents during the game, so you may have more time than you think.
The mids need all the fans they can get - the Corps must attend and the mids
are few. The area is rather desolate but the arena does have vendors - hot
dogs, etc. When you are hungry, you eat anything.

See you at the game .. dress warmly, there is a hike to the game from the
parking lot and plenty of outdoor stairs.

The 19th ranked Midshipman played at the University of Delaware Saturday evening. Navy's J.D. Walker stole the puck off of the opening face-off and skated in alone to score a goal just 6 seconds into the game. However, the 5th ranked Fighting Blue Hens scored 5 goals before Navy finished with a late tally.
The 5-2 non-league loss doesn't hurt their ECHA playoff hopes.
Today, The Retrievers of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County come into Dahlgren Hall for a 2:00 game.
Next week----The Crab Pot Tournament.

Can anyone help out with a last minute project that was given to an 11
year old Navy sister in gym class today? "Go on web and find out all
about football?"
How many on team, how many on field, titles of those on field, positions
of those on field, how many coaches, how many points for touch down and
how many points for other stuff too. I do know NAVY beat Army I even
watched that game! I know it's sacrilege but it's the only game I've ever
even watched. The eleven year old has watched zero. Did I mention I'm a
single MOM, I'm running a temp of 101 and eleven year old is not computer
savvy? But she does know that if she doesn't turn in something off the
computer she gets a lunch detention tomorrow and that's BIG when you are
in sixth grade!

The Navy ice hockey team will be looking to defend its title this weekend when it hosts
the 26th annual Crabpot Tournament at Dahlgren Hall in Annapolis. Lehigh University and
Mercyhurst College will square off in the tournament opener Saturday (February 1) at 4:30
p.m. Navy will meet Villanova University at 7:30 p.m. Unlike previous years, the
Navy-Villanova clash will count in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association standings.
On Sunday (February 2), the consolation game will be played at noon. The championship
contest between Saturday's winning teams will then be played Sunday at 3 p.m. Presentation
of the official "crabpot," along with the tournament's Most Valuable Player, will be made
to the victor immediately following Sunday's championship game. Navy captured last year's
Crabpot title, its first since winning back-to-back championships in 1995-1996. The
Midshipmen have been crowned champion a total of eight times in the 25 years the
tournament has been played.
