The women's basketball team defeated Army yesterday in a triple overtime
nail biter, 86-85! It was a hard fought victory in front of 4,200+ fans
who nearly lost their voices cheering them on. The team earned the
N-Star for the 3rd time in 4 years. The women's team is now seeded in
5th place in the Patriot League standings and will play Bucknell (who is
in 4th place) in the first game of the Patriot League Tournament at Show
Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland this Friday at 2:30pm. Come
cheer the girls on if you're in the area!

Also, be sure to check out the new photos at www.navysportsphotos.com.
They have posted A LOT of new pictures of the women's basketball team
and many other sports.

GO NAVY!

I walked past a lacrosse game being played on a field with snow piled about
10 feet high at one end. Halsey Field House was full of Midshipmen wearing
their blue and gold jogging suits. The announcer was wearing a tux. The
Commandant was in one corner and the Deputy Commandant in the other boxer's
corner. A long boxing card. Each fight consisted of three two-minute
rounds. I was sitting with some plebes from 30th Co. They looked subdued,
after finishing their six week exams (the concensus was that navigation is
as hard as chemistry). That is, until someone from 30th Co. stepped into
the ring. When a plebe from 30th Co. fought in the 185 pound weight class
(he won), the plebes all left their seats in the bleachers and went down
and stood behind his corner of the ring. Watching them cheer their company
mate, you could really tell that life at the academy revolves around the
company. One interesting thing I noticed was that when the plebes were
cheering a plebe boxer, it was "Go, (first name)!" When a firstie from
30th Company was in the ring in an earlier bout, it was "Go, Mr. (last
name)!" Brigade boxing finals...not your average Friday night on campus.

Having attended that game, I can tell you it was one of the most exciting
basketball games I've ever witnessed. The Navy team displayed the
characteristics that are typical of Mids in general: the worked as a team,
never gave up, gave 110% effort, and trimphed in the end!! Those same
characterisitcs were also true of the Navy men's squad that defeated Army
after the women's game, and of the Navy men's lacrosse team that topped
North Carolina in four overtimes Friday night. I'm sure there were other
examples over this past weekend, but those were three contests I was
fortunate to see firsthand!

ARMY-NAVY FOOTBALL TICKETS GO ON SALE TUESDAY

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Tickets for the 104th playing of the Army-Navy football game,
which will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. at Philadelphia's Lincoln
Financial Field, will go on sale Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Ricketts Hall Box
office or by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY. The sale runs through April 30.
Only Navy football season ticket holders, Naval Academy Athletic Association
members, Midshipmen and Naval Academy Alumni are eligible to buy tickets at
this time. Tickets will go on sale for the Naval Academy Faculty/Staff on
June 16 and to incoming plebe parents on June 30. If any tickets remain,
there will be a sale for the general public on July 14, although that is
highly unlikely. Fans are advised to buy season tickets or join the NAAA to
make sure they have access to Army-Navy tickets. Tickets are $45.00 apiece
and can be paid with a Visa, MasterCard, check or cash.

# Midshipmen may purchase a maximum of 4 tickets. The midshipmen sale of
Army-Navy tickets is limited. Last year, the midshipmen allotment sold out
in just two weeks. Midshipmen must purchase their tickets, in person, at
the Navy Ticket Office in Ricketts Hall.

@ In early June, a separate ticket application will be mailed to all
incoming plebe parents. Plebe parents may purchase a maximum of 4 tickets.
The plebe parent sale of Army-Navy tickets is limited. Last year, the plebe
parent allotment was sold out in one week.

HOW MANY TICKETS CAN I PURCHASE?
........If I am a season ticket holder and/or Athletic Association Member?
When submitting an Army-Navy ticket application, there is no initial limit
on ticket purchase. However, order quantities may be decreased based on a
number of factors: number of members and season ticket holders ordering,
quantity of tickets ordered, and your level of membership.

If I submit an application for a large number of tickets, what are the
chances of receiving that quantity?
In recent years, the average number of tickets ordered has been just over 4
tickets per account holder. To put that average in perspective, there are
currently over 7000 members, 4200 midshipmen, and 3800 season ticket
holders. Taking those numbers into consideration, the chance of receiving a
large quantity of tickets is very minimal.

When and how will I know how many tickets I'll receive for the game?
Because the deadline for ordering Army-Navy tickets is on April 30, 2003, we
anticipate finalizing all order quantities on May 11, 2003. Beginning May
12, we will contact all account holders via telephone whose order quantity
has been reduced. Refunds will be issued via check within 14-21 business
days.

If I order a large number of tickets, will I be charged for the full
quantity upon receipt of my application?
Yes. All orders received during the appropriate times will be processed, in
full. If your order is reduced, a refund will be issued via check within
14-21 business days.

SEAT ASSIGNMENTS?
How are seats assigned for the game?
Seating for the game is assigned in the following manner:
* Season Ticket Holder Members - by level of membership and class
* Commodore and Trident Members - by level of membership and class
* Season Ticket Holders - by consecutive years of season ticket purchase
* Anchor Members - by class
* Naval Academy Alumni and Faculty/Staff - by order date
* Midshipmen - by order date

How can I receive better seating to the game?
Upgrade your level of membership by the April 30 order deadline or consider
becoming a Navy Football Season Ticket Holder. Seating for the game will be
assigned based on your membership level on that date. If your 2003 dues are
not paid by April 30, your seats will be assigned as an Anchor Member.

Do I have to renew my membership when I order my Army-Navy tickets in April?
No. However, if you order tickets to the game, your membership dues must be
paid by July 11, 2003. After this date passes, your Army-Navy ticket order
may be cancelled.

When will I know where my seats are located?
All seats will be assigned by July 14, 2003.

In previous years, I was only able to have a maximum of 4 tickets in a
priority seating area - and had to determine whether I wanted to split my
group (i.e. 4 in, 2 out) or have all seats together in a non-priority area
(i.e. 6 out). Is that happening again this year? All of the tickets you
order will be seated together. Again, please keep in mind the average
number of tickets that have been ordered. In many cases, you will already
be limited to 4-6 tickets, based on the number of account holders who order
tickets this year.

Can midshipmen still request parent's club seating?
Yes. Midshipmen must make that request when ordering their tickets.
Specific Parent's Club Seating Reference Numbers may be found on our
website.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY TICKETS?
Tickets will be mailed 6 weeks prior to the game. All tickets will be
mailed to the address of record of each account holder.

If any of you sports fans would like to lend support to some Navy fencers, they are headed for a tournament at West Point. I don't know the specifics, but they are excited about their first tournament as an official extra - curricular activity.

My son is one of the Navy Lightweight Crew team selected to race April 5-6
on Mission Bay in San Deigo, and his grandfather and I are driving down
Friday from northern California for the weekend. A question for any San
Diego area USNA parents:

Is there any organized support tent or tailgater at the race site for the
USNA crew team, and if so where would it be located?

Thanks! GO NAVY!

Hello from San Diego!

So good to hear you'll be in town for the race! Yes, each year the San Diego
Alumni Association takes the lead and hosts a hospitality tent for our team
and supporters. The local parent club partners with the Alumni Association
to assist in the weekend's activities.

I'll be happy to assist with any additional information needed by Navy fans
coming to town.
