Navy-Army Men's Soccer Game to Be Televised Live on CN8 October 24

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy-Army men's soccer game, slated for Friday, Oct. 24
at the Glenn Warner Soccer Complex in Annapolis, will be televised live by
CN8 (Philadelphia) it was announced this week.

The annual Star Match will kickoff at 8 p.m. CN8 is available across
Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland with broadcasts ranging from
Boston down to Annapolis. "Men's soccer is one of the great rivalries
between the two schools," Navy head coach Greg Myers said. "We are excited
to have the opportunity to showcase our new facility in such a great rivalry
with our good friends from West Point." This will be the 69th meeting
between the two Academy rivals, while the Mids lead the overall series,
33-24-11. However, Navy is seeking its first N-Star victory over the
arch-rival Black Knights since 1999 when the Mids escaped with a 3-2 victory
in overtime. Last year in West Point, N.Y., Navy and Army played to a 0-0
scoreless tie after two overtime periods. The 2001 matchup also ended in a
0-0 tie with the Black Knights scoring a 2-0 win in 2000. Navy will open the
2003 campaign with a Labor Day matchup on Sept. 1 when the Mids play host to
Birmingham Southern at 12 Noon.

Annapolis, Md. -- Senior Colleen Maloney (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central
Catholic) was named women's cross country team captain for the 2003 season,
head coach Karen Boyle announced today. Maloney, a three-sport athlete in
high school, has been a consistent performer for the Mids in her first three
seasons.

"I'm excited about this team, as well as Colleen Maloney being captain,"
says Boyle. "It is a relatively young team, with the exception of two strong
seniors providing leadership. Colleen as captain brings the team together in
motivation and team spirit; Stephanie Patterson brings strength and has led
the team out front for the last two years."

Maloney posted top-10 finishes in several meets during her freshman and
sophomore seasons and finished last season's Heptagonal Championship in a
time of 20:03.4. Maloney will be looking to guide her team to a Star Meet
victory on Oct. 17th in West Point and a strong showing at the Patriot
League Championships and the Mid-Atlantic Regional in November, while also
leading the younger members of the squad.

"The upcoming sophomores, Gina DiPiero, Sherri Flohr and Tina Terry in
particular, did very well last year and will provide a solid punch," notes
Boyle. "Several freshmen were state champs in track and cross country and
will look to provide an immediate impact. Erin Demchko, Christine Taranto,
and Emily Castro are three out of approximately seven freshmen who will
strengthen the team, especially from October into the Championship period.
Senior Lily Thomas and junior Kristyn Kern scored several times last season
in the top ten and can factor within the top seven as well!"

The Mids kick off the 2003 season at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Sept.
5th, before playing host to their lone meet of the season with the 2nd
Annual Salty Sea Dog Invitational on Sept. 13th.

I am looking for any information regarding the fall baseball season
regarding tryouts, schedules and any possible catchers to work with my
son on his pitching. Not that there is any "free" time to practice, but
there is no hurt in planning. We can't wait to see our son Company N,
Platoon 26 in a few short weeks. We are so proud! Thank you, Loren from
New England

Men's Collegiate Golf

Hurley Finishes Seventh At Porter Cup
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. - Surrounded by some of the premier amateur golfers,
Navy rising senior Billy Hurley (Leesburg, Va.) finished the four-day,
72-hole Porter Cup tied for seventh place. Just six shots separated him
from tournament winner Casey Wittenberg, the 2001 AJGA Player of the Year
who will be attending Oklahoma State this fall. Never out of the top 10,
Hurley had slipped from seventh to ninth after the second day, but in round
three he bounced back and maintained that position in the final round.

Fatigue appeared to set in during the final round of play, as many of the
leaders were unable to match their early-round sub-70 scores. Such was the
case for Vanderbilt's Brandt Snedeker who led the first-three rounds before
a disastrous 5-over par 75 in the final round sent him plummeting to fourth
place. Two-time First-Team All-American Bill Haas turned in a Porter
Cup-low round of 60 in the second round and jumped to second, however, his
72 and 73 on the final-two holes dropped him to a tie for fifth by
tournament's end.

The 45th Annual Porter Cup featured some of the premier amateur golfers in
the country with 26 of the top-32 players as ranked by
Golfweek/Titleist participating in the 72-hole medal-play event. Through
the years, many of the greats of today have participated in the Porter Cup.
PGA stars such as Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Tom Lehman, Hal Sutton and
Justin Leonard have competed, while Phil Mickelson, David Duval and Scott
Verplank have won the title.
