Please note that, while we're all in the same boat with Federal Taxes and have posted Federal Information on our web site, each state has different tax rules and each of you is MUCH BETTER OFF asking your local State Department of Taxation or tax preparer/advisor than seeking advice about state taxes from our lists. Every state with a state income tax sends out a tax instruction booklet with their returns. Read it and follow those instructions to determine if and how your Mid must file a state return. If you didn't get the instructions, they are usually available at the local Post Office or library. Issue closed. I have tried to use as many of them as I could. But sometimes someone sent me one, or two photos, and although I appreciated this, I could not devote a whole page to just one or two pictures. So I tucked them away and hoped that there might be a time when I could use them. Yesterday I went to these photos and decided to put together a page with "odds and ends" of photos. The photos in this collection from five different parents are completely unrelated. They have Company Boards, pics from the Boston College and the Air Force football games, pics of the Gospel Choir, some more pics of PEP and even a shot of the winning B Hockey Team from the Leatherneck Tournament. I consider every photo I get important. I only hope that I did not leave out a photo or collection that has been sent to me. If I did - and you sent me some photos that I have never used...please forgive me. Sometimes the computer can be just as bad as a cluttered closet. Unless you know exactly where to look for something, you might NEVER find it. I have named the new page "Cornucopia of Photos". You will find it by going to the website: www.navy-usna.org clicking onto the "Photo Gallery" menu item on the left and scrolling to the bottom of the page to find "Cornucopia of Photos" I do not want to "oversaturate" you with photos...but I think that this is something that you all seem to like. Thanks to those who sent along these photos for being so patient with me. Sandi *** USNA-NET post by: STOKER Michael 00-10 ZETS Sandi Have you donated to USNA-Net yet? David Mahan at the US Naval Academy Medical Center at Hospital, we are very happy to announce the availability of a website (provided by USNA) for the Medical Clinic at Hospital Point. You can access it at any time via your web browser at http://nmclanna.med.navy.mil/ or find it listed in our USNA-Net "Site Index" under several different names: Hospital Point, Medical Clinic, Clinic, and USNA - Hospital In this way, anytime you need to contact the Medical Facility at the Yard, you can go to our website Index on our main page and then look for "Hospital" or "Clinic" or "Medical Clinic," etc. and find their website. It has their hours of operation and ALL of the telephone numbers that you will ever need to contact Patient Representatives when you have a question about your Mid or his/her treatment. Just though I'd share this bit of VERY useful information with the rest of our Parents. The answer is yes. There has been little or no activity on this list for the past week. I guess that we've just about answered all of the '03 parents' questions and they have been quiet. If you're not receiving email, maybe YOU should write to the list with your questions, advice or commentary on Navy Parenting. Of late, it seems that you have all fallen into the habit of listening to a very few members and not writing yourselves. Speak up. There are 652 members of USNA-Plebe. If you all wrote just one message a month, we'd have over 50 per day. Write, we don't bite! Anyway, unless you have specifically requested that you be removed from any of our lists you are still subscribed. As you all know, USNA-Net is not officially a part of the United States Naval Academy and since that is the case, the Academy cannot offer any form of "Official" recognition nor can they assist us in spreading the word about our Net Community to new USNA Parents. This includes not having any mention of USNA-Net in the Plebe Info Packets that will be sent to incoming '04 Plebe Parents. So... It's up to us again to spread the word about our Listservers. In the coming weeks, each of you will have an opportunity to meet with Class of '04 Midshipmen and their families at Candidate Events sponsored by your local Parents' Clubs. We need you to take a moment to pass on our web address and impress upon each of these families the real value of membership in our volunteer organization of Parents Helping Parents! Our Mission is to share support, advice and information about Navy Parenting and I feel we have done a great service to over 800 USNA families during the past year. Even so, we have only reached less than a third of the Class of '03 parents. As the '04s start getting ready for I-Day, we need to make them aware of just how much support, advice and information is readily available through membership in our Listservers. We know from the email that Sandi and I receive that each of you have learned something of value about life on the Yard and being a Navy Parent because you are members of USNA-Net. The most important thing you have learned is that you are not alone. Our shared experiences have been of immense value to all of our members. How many times have you "upper-class" parents thought, "I wish these Lists had been around when my Mid was a Plebe"? Think about the many unanswered questions that you had back then, and the anxieties you felt. You have the opportunity, here, to really help a lot of '04 parents simply by telling them about USNA-Net. Now is the time that YOU can to do something for the next set of incoming Plebe Parents by letting them know how much information and advice can be had just by filling out our membership form and signing up for our Listservers. In the past twelve months, USNA-Net has grown from 70 members to over 800. Our website has received over 55,000 visits by our members and others interested in USNA. This has been mostly due to the outstanding efforts of those of you that ARE members... Spreading the word about us... Sharing your experiences with USNA-Net with others... and generally bragging about our Lists. Now that you are all comfortable with who we are and how we work, I know that, now more than ever, you will want to share this Navy Parenting experience with those that need us the most - The Class of '04 Parents. Put us in your Club Newsletter. Tell everyone you meet about USNA-Net. Don't let an opportunity go by. Besides increasing our membership, talking about USNA-Net is a great way to break the ice with the Parents you meet. It's a great conversation starter. If you need printed information to pass along or include in your Club Newsletter, just print out one of these webpages... www.navy-usna.org/promote.html or www.navy-usna.org/halfpromote.html which are full page and half page flyers, respectively. There is also a business card handout at www.navy-usna.org/card.html with a graphic that you can right click on and print to hand out whenever you want. Handy for your wallet or purse. Remember last year, we had 70 members who helped in growing our membership to 800. Think how many more we can reach with all 800 of you out there singing our praises. Do whatever you can. The more Parents we reach, the better and more effective we can be. Thanks for your help. The last time they did these security exercises, some parents got wind of it, but only part of the story, and panic ensued for some. The exercise will have little impact on visitors, and it will take place next week because mids are not there. Personnel from Ft. Meade, home of the National Security Agency, will "pose" as terrorists or as people with false identification. Security is more intense during these drills, but they are only drills, designed to point out whether or not more training of security personnel is in order. As they say on TV every once in a while: "This is a test. This is only a test." So if you hear someone is looking for terrorists on the Yard, rest easy. This is only a readiness check.
