To all...

PLEASE DO NOT SEND UNSUBSCRIPTION REQUESTS TO OUR LISTS !!!

While I am NOT encouraging anyone to leave our Navy Parents Family, if you
do want to unsubscribe from one or all of our lists, the PROPER way to do it
is to send a message to

majordomo@navy-usna.org

In the body of the message type the word

unsubscribe

followed by the name of the list, such as

usna-plebe OR USNA-ClubNet OR USNA-Sports, etc.

OR BETTER YET...

send a message to your MODERATORS at mzets@mail.com and tell us to take you
off a list. That's all there is to it.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND UNSUBSCRIPTION REQUESTS TO OUR LISTS !!!

In regard to the member who was sent the following:

<<<it is customary to sign with a sport only when your mid has made Varsity
>>>

Since Mike and I Moderate this Listserver, and have a pretty good handle on
what the rules and customs are...and are the ONLY ones permitted to enforce
them...

PLEASE NOTE...

This is NOT a rule or custom of our lists. You may sign your Mid's sport,
whether he/she is in Varsity, in JV, or even in Intramural...

Any information binds us closer. I had no idea until Commissioning Week
that my (now) Ensign did some coaching of Mids on the Intramural volleyball
teams...but I would have placed it in my signature had I known.

I can't say this too strongly...members should NEVER reprimand or take to
task anything that another member posts to the lists. If you have a problem
with something ,send your concern to Mike or me, NOT to the member. We will
handle the problem quickly and privately.

That is our job as Moderators.

To all...

This is just a reminder that ALL messages sent to our lists are to conform
with our Mission Statement and Rules of Operation, particularly that portion
which specifies POSITIVE content.

We should not deal in Rumors, Sensational News Stories or ANY Topic which
may reflect poorly on our Mids or the United States Naval Academy.

Breaking THIS rule will result in immediate removal from our Listservers.

To all USNA-Net members...

From time to time it is necessary to change our password for security
reasons.

Effectively immediately the User Name and Password needed to access our
Archives and Chat room have changed.

The new ones are...

User Name: brigade
Password: bancroft (all lowercase)

Note that the User Name did NOT change, only the Password.

Please make note of this for future reference. Write it down or print this
message for your use later. Please don't say to yourself that you'll
remember and then have to write to us in a few weeks saying you can't
remember. It happens to all of us as we get older. We can't remember sh-t.
:>) :>)

So PLEASE, Please, please... Print this email and put it under your monitor
with the dust bunnies for ready reference when you need it.

To all Members of USNA-Net Listservers...

We have temporarily shut down ALL USNA-Net Listservers. Please do not
attempt to post ANY messages until you are advised that it is appropriate to
do so.

In light of the recent events at USNA and the temptation of some members to
discuss these events on our Lists, we have been forced to take these drastic
measures.

Our Lists are intended to share advice and support for Parents of
Midshipmen. They are NOT intended to be a NEWS SERVICE where "incidents" at
USNA are concerned nor are they a FORUM for discussions of these types of
VERY sensitive and PRIVATE matters.

Please remember that the parents of the Midshipman involved in the most
recent event MAY be members of our lists. To begin any discussion or to
even comment on these things is extremely inappropriate. We MUST respect
the privacy and personal needs of the Midshipman and his/her parents above
all else.

We will advise you of the resumption of service.

To our USNA Family...

It was necessary, last evening to suspend our Listservers' operation. This
was done to insure the Privacy and well being of a family and Midshipman
involved in an accident at the Yard yesterday.

Please bear with me as I explain why we took this drastic action. We became
aware of the accident shortly after it occurred. The reports to us varied
widely and lacked important facts.

We did NOT know the name of the Midshipman involved and therefore could not
know if his/her parents are members of our list or not. Any mention of this
incident might have been the FIRST mention these parents would hear. This
is not the kind off information you would want to learn about (third-hand)
if "you" were the parents. So we took the only remedy that was available to
us. We shut down the Listservers.

I want everyone on our lists to realize that WE ARE NOT A NEWS SERVICE. We
are a Support Group. GOSSIP and LATE BREAKING NEWS STORIES are never
appropriate on our lists. "A Midshipman's (and/or the family's) RIGHT TO
PRIVACY are paramount and should be considered prior to ANY reference in a
message, especially, in the case of a death, serious medical or personal
situation involving a Midshipman or his/her family." (Rule #5)

It's time that you all re-read the Rules of Operation on our Web site
(www.navy-usna.org) and also the "Welcome Message" that you received when
you first signed up. (www.navy-usna.org/welcome.html).

Just as you did not jump behind the wheel of a car for the first time
without knowing the Rules of the Road, You are REQUIRED to read our Rules of
Operation BEFORE you begin participating in our Lists ! With so many new
members joining our lists this summer, it will take the cooperation and
forethought of every member to keep focused on our Mission and to be there
to be supportive in every way - in EVERY message.

New members, if you have questions, or you need advice on how to solve any
problem, no matter how major or trivial it may seem, that's what we are here
for.

Enough of the lecture. Full Listserver and Chat Room Operations have been
restored.

Sincerely,

Mike & Sandi Zets

To All,

I have a rather serious problem to discuss with you all!

Today, on both the Plebe and Family Lists, there have been many posts that
did NOT need to be sent to our lists. They were comments meant for
individuals that should have been sent ONLY to the individual member, and
NOT to the Lists.

Think about this: If every Plebe parent who did not see their Mid in either
our photos or in George's photos, wrote to the list to tell us this, you
would have seen over 400 additional emails sent from the Plebe List in your
mailbox. I don't think that anyone really wants that kind of volume.

When your email does not concern the entire group, please remember to hit
the "Reply to Sender" button rather than the "Reply to All" button in your
email program.

Additionally, one line posts saying things like, "I agree!" also do not
belong. If you agree with something that a member wrote, let them know in a
private email.

Let's remember to keep the volume of mail down by NOT sending unnecessary
posts. If you have a question or concern...if you are answering a question
of interest to us all...if you have some information that we can all benefit
from...if your story or experience will be of help...then send it, PLEASE !!
But if your email is meant for one or two, send it directly to them!!

There have been a number of posts to the lists recently that have bounced to
us. If you have sent a post to the lists and it has not appeared there are
three possible reasons for this.

First: You sent your post from the WRONG email address. Our lists are
email sensitive, NOT name sensitive. So, if you are registered under your
home email address, you can not send an email from your work address. You
can ONLY post from the email address that you are subscribed to the lists
under.

Second: You do NOT belong to the List. If you have unsubscribed from one
of our lists, say the Plebe list, and decide to send a quick note
concerning a plebe issue to this list, it will not go through.

Third: Sometimes an email just takes time to be delivered. Our server has
to send out hundreds of copies of your email and this process can be slowed
up by the time of day, or the volume of traffic at a particular time. DO
NOT send your message a second time. Recently we have seen duplicate posts
which happens because the member did not think that it "took." If you do
not receive a delivery problem from your ISP, your message HAS gone through.
If you don't see it in a timely manner, contact Mike or me and we will find
out why.

And one last, unrelated issue. PLEASE, do not send your messages in Rich
Text Format (RTF). If your post does not have the customary signature line
at the bottom, it was sent in RTF. Check our Site Index under RTF to find
out how to send in Plain Text.

Thank you for your co operation.
