A special message from your Moderators...

It is with great pride in our collective Navy Family that we have been asked
to announce the introduction of a NEW web site on the Internet for the
Arizona Parents Club.

The site is authored by Ernesto L. Arboleda, who is their Webmaster and
whose son, Ernesto A., is a soon to be Plebe-No-More in the Class of '05.

The site may be found at... www.USNA-AZPC.org

Please take a moment to visit it and to send a note to Ernesto telling him
how great it looks. These things take a lot of hard word and creative
energy. Let him know that his volunteer efforts are appreciated.

While you are at it, pat yourselves on the back as well. This new Domain
and Website are hosted by USNA-Net on our server at no charge to the club
because you, our members, have generously provided funds for our continuing
operation.

USNA-Net now hosts 15 of the 32 club web sites that exist today with THREE
MORE still in the works and coming on-line soon. All of those 15 web sites
are provided for the various clubs at no cost to the club and are made
possible through the generosity and support of our USNA-Net members.

You can find links to ALL of the Club web sites by going to our USNA-Net web
site at www.USNA-Net.org and clicking on "Parents' Club Sites" in the
main menu on the left of the main page. We have our US Map there showing
where all the Clubs are located and which ones have web sites. Clicking on
any highlighted state takes you straight to their web site. It's a neat way
to visit all 32 of the Club Web Sites.

A special message from your Moderators...

So that none of you forget, here is another reminder that on Sunday evening,
May 19th, 2002 (the evening BEFORE Herndon) we will all be meeting at
Buddy's Crabs and Ribs for our 4th ANNUAL GET-TOGETHER.

Last year we had 465 members attend and it was a really fun time. It's a
chance to finally put faces to names and email addresses that we have all
come to know and love(?).

It is open to all MEMBERS and their GUESTS! That includes anyone who wants
to come along, even Mids. We usually have several dozen Midshipmen roaming
around the place during the evening. It's a really fun event.

Here are the specifics...

Place... Buddy's Crabs and Ribs Restaurant, 100 Main St. Annapolis, MD
(right downtown on the Traffic Circle at the end of the City
Docks.)

Time... 2000 Hrs (8:00 PM) to Midnight - May 19th, 2002

Dress Code... Casual. Whatever you happen to have on.

FREE HORS D'OEUVRES - CASH BAR - NO COVER or ADMISSION FEE.

Please join us. It's FREE and we all have a wonderful time. It's a time
for Parents to mix and mingle. Bring along your Parents' Club Name Tags and
wear your Red, White and Blue Ribbons so everyone will know who you are.

There are photos of last year's event on our web site at www.USNA-Net.org.
Just click on the 4th Annual Meeting icon in the middle of the top of the
main page.

You will find all of the details there, photos of last year's meeting PLUS a
Map of how to find the place in case you need it. It's only two blocks from
Gate 1, right downtown on the second floor above what used to be the Banana
Republic Store on the corner of Main and Randolph Streets (on the Traffic
Circle). The restaurant will be serving dinner until 2200 Hrs. Come for
dinner if you'd like and stay for the mixer.

Won't you please join us? We'll miss you if you're in town and don't stop
by to say hello. (It's not like you have to pay $22.50 per person to visit
with your USNA-Net Friends.) This is FREE. Bring the whole gang.

Sandi and I will be waiting.

Well, We're half way through this week's On-Line Poll and have already
received votes from 290 members. The question this week is...

=========================================
How many times do you visit the Yard in a year ?
=========================================

Please DO NOT send your answer to me via return email. You MUST go to our
web site at www.USNA-Net.org and click on the icon in the center of the top
of the page which says "USNA-Net Poll" and then select your choice and vote
on-line. You will immediately see the results up to that point after you
cast your vote.

We're also LOOKING FOR OTHER QUESTIONS to ask in the coming weeks. If you
have a question to ask of the membership that can be asked in a single
question with multiple answers, send it our way. You will probably see it
asked in the coming months. (Sorry, no fill in the blank type questions can
be used.)

Thanks,

A special message from your Moderators...

As if things weren't bad enough already, several of our members have become
infected with the W32.Klez.e@MM V1RUS and are sending out copies of it to
everyone in their address books. Worse yet, they probably don't even know
they're infected and don't have current AntiV1rus software in place on their
computers.

Here's what's happening. Someone opens an attachment and get infected. No
antiv1rus software to protect them. It happens in a blink of an eye. Once
infected, the V1RUS immediately begins sending out copies of itself to
EVERYONE in their address book.

Next, and this is the really bad part, it fudges the FROM address on these
copies of itself. It randomly selects the email address of someone in the
infected computer's address book and sends out the V1RUS copies as if they
were coming FROM that person and not the infected person. There is
virtually no way to tell who is infected and warn them to clean up their
computer. All we can tell is the identity of the Internet Service Provider
used by the infected computer.

One of our members received an email that said it was from me and opened the
attachment, only to get the infection, thinking that since it was from me,
it was safe. I did not send the email nor the virus. I run the most
current antivirus software all the time. The infected member's computer had
MY address in their address book (I must be in hundreds of your address
books) and the virus used it as the fake FROM address when it sent out the
copy of the itself.

We know of at least one member who attempted to infect their Mid yesterday
and there must be literally dozens of members who have received these
attachments to email in recent weeks.

PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS TO EMAIL even if it is from someone your
know.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE RUNNING UP-TO-DATE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE !

Check your machine. It really could be YOUR COMPUTER that is infected.

Be safe and understand that USNA-Net's mail server software strips all
attachments from all email sent to our members through our server. You
cannot receive a virus from our system but you CAN get a virus from another
member via private email. AND with this new virus "faking" return
addresses, an infected email could actually say it is from USNA-Net, when
it's not. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Go Navy - See you all at Buddy's on Sunday evening between 8:00 PM and
Midnight.

A special message from your Moderators...

To all,

My sincerest apologies to everyone who went to the web site looking for
webcast images of our 4th Annual Get Together at Buddy's tonight. We had
very last minute problems with our dial up provider in Annapolis ( they were
in process of updating password files ) and we could not get connected
directly from Buddy's as we have in the past. Therefore, if you went to
look at the photos, they weren't there.

In passing, we had over 100 Mids there ( we were handing out Safe Harbor
wallet cards so we know that there were at least that many Mids present)
along with parents and we estimate that in total we had about 600 people
show up (including the Mids). It was a great evening starting about 8:00 PM
and going strong until about 11:00 PM - finally ending up with a few of us
still talking at 12:10 as they ushered us out the door.

Too many wonderful parents to name them all - many, many sponsors whose
names you would recognize and members from as far away as Hawaii and France,
and just about every state in the union.

Our thanks to everyone who showed up, it was the biggest and best USNA-Net
party yet. We were surrounded by friends and well wishers all night long.
Sandi and I were overwhelmed by the love and friendship we encountered
tonight. Thanks to everyone who came. It was a really wonderful four
hours. It was Navy Parenting at its best.

On to Herndon and Commissioning.

To all,

Because there appears to be a bit of confusion among members, we would like
to remind all of our members that ALL requests on administrative matters
should be sent to the Moderators and NOT to our lists.

Please send all of these requests to...

    owner@USNA-Net.org

These types of things include...

    Change of Email Address
    Add or Delete a List
    Obtain User Name &/or Password

Please DO NOT pass along YOUR User Name and Password to anyone! They are
private and exist to ensure that our lists' and our members' privacy is
maintained. Providing this information to anyone, even another member, is a
severe violation of our List Policy. Our Archives and our Classified Ads
are FOR MEMBERS ONLY. We can only maintain these services if YOU protect
that information by not divulging your User Name and Password to anyone
under any circumstances.

If someone says they have forgotten their password (we all do it from time
to time) let them write to the Moderators. We get several such requests
every week. It is no problem and we can check to insure that the requesting
person really is a member in good standing. Our Archives contain too many
email addresses of members (both current and former) to allow just anyone to
have access. We have an obligation to protect the privacy of those
individuals who have given of themselves by taking the time to write to our
lists for the past four and a half years to advise and support other
members. If you carelessly allow anyone to access our Archives or even our
Classified Ads, you remove any need for that person to actually register
with us and become legitimate members of our wonderful organization.

Do your part, keep your User Name and Password to yourself.
