A special message from your Moderators...

To all,

I have been asked to remind you all of a V1RUS that is showing up in many
Inboxes. It is a very official looking email that appears to come from
Microsoft and says that it contains a patch. The following is directly from
the Microsoft website:

"From time to time malicious individuals circulate e-mails that purport to
be a Microsoft Se curity Bulletin or Patch. Some of the emails direct the
reader to download an executable file from a web site - while others include
an executable file which contains a V1RUS. Customers who receive such an
email should de lete it, and under no circumstances should they download or
run the executable."

Remember that there are insidious people out there who want nothing more
than to infect YOUR computer with their version of a V1RUS. The best way to
keep your computer safe is to install and keep updated a trusted Anti-V1RUS
software program.

If you learn only one "techie" thing from USNA-Net, let it be that you
ALWAYS check to see if a V1RUS warning is real or a hoax before you act on
it. PLEASE, always refer to our "Site Index" - look under "V" for V1RUS to
find out the skinny on any warning you receive.

You might also want to bookmark this website: http://www.snopes.com/ the
Urban Legends Reference page.

Whenever you get a story, news item, medical or political item in an email
that tells you to send it along to everyone in your address book - or to all
of your friends - please check to see if it is actually true before sending
it on. Sending untrue stories to your friends is not as serious as passing
along a V1RUS hoax, I grant you, but it still clutters up the Internet with
what amounts to junk email.

Go Navy!

When Sandi and I first created the web site for the NorthEast Ohio Naval
Academy Parents Club back in 1997 (a full year before there even was a
USNA-Net), we were sent a piece honoring US Veterans on Veterans' Day. It
so impressed us that we made it a permanent part of the NEONAP.org web site
and would like to invite all of you to take a moment today to stop by the
site and read it. You will find it at...

http://www.neonap.org/veteran.html

or you can link to it under our list of Family Interest links in our main
menu on the www.USNA-Net.org web site. Either way, it's well worth the
minute it takes to read.

Please feel free to share this link with anyone you know who might benefit
from reading this tribute to Veterans everywhere.

We try to remind our members each year of these words by Marine Corps
Chaplain, Father Denis Edward O'Brien, as we honor our veterans who have
given so much so that we might be free.

To all who served, thank you.

It's with a great deal of pleasure that we have the honor of announcing the
latest addition to our Navy Family's Internet presence...

The Naval Academy Parents' Club of Oregon Web Site which may be found at...

        www.USNA-PCOO.org

While it is still a small site, it provides a list of club contacts for
Parents of Midshipmen in the State of Oregon and we welcome everyone to take
a quick look at what is now the 41st Parents' Club Web Site on the Internet.

If you are located within the State of Oregon, the Club's Officers would
like to encourage you to stop by the web site and perhaps consider joining
your fellow Oregon Parents as club members. These are a wonderful group of
folks who are anxious to meet and greet fellow parents of Oregon Midshipmen.

The site becomes the 27th club web site hosted by USNA-Net at no cost to the
club. If your club has a web site which it would like to move to our
server, we urge you to contact USNA-Net to find out how easy it is to use
our server as the home for your web site. After all, why pay for hosting
and an annual domain registration or impose on a fellow member to bear the
costs involved when we have a full service UNIX server which can host your
domain for free? If your club doesn't yet have a web site, please consider
setting one up for your club.

For a map of all 41 club web sites, visit our USNA-Net web site and click on
"Parents' Club Web Sites" in our main menu. You'll find loads of
information on these sites, all dedicated to helping Parents of Midshipmen.

Welcome Aboard, Oregon Parents !!!

This is a REALLY IMPORTANT WARNING. Please read it all. - Mike Zets

Within the past week a NEW virus has been discovered which comes to you via
email disguised as a message from PayPal, the payment service used by a lot
of individuals for making payments on-line at such places as eBay.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THE PAYPAL MESSAGE !

It will direct you to visit a web site which asks for your name, address and
CREDIT CARD information. THIS SITE IS A HOAX. It is not part of the PayPal
organization and will send the collected information to con men and identity
thieves. The virus then monitors your every move on your computer, finding
files with personal information, credit card info and passwords and sending
them to the same thieves.

The virus message begins...

"Dear PayPal member,

We regret to inform you that your account is about to be expired in next
five business days. To avoid suspension of your account you have to
reactivate it by providing us with your personal information... "

Both Norton and McAfee AntiVirus software will protect you but we know that
several of our members are infected because we keep getting copies of this
virus at both our personal and USNA-Net addresses. Our server is stopping
the viruses from being sent to our membership but if you are operating
without AV software or using out-dated AV software, you are HIGHLY at risk
and will PROBABLY become infected.

As a condition of membership in USNA-Net you MUST have current AV software
installed on the computer you use to send and receive email to and from
USNA-Net.

As I said, several of our members are infected RIGHT NOW. If you don't have
current AV software installed, it's probably you and each time you turn on
your computer, it sends out copies of the virus to EVERYONE in your address
book, from Aunt Martha to your Mid.

Please act responsibly. Buy and install AV software today!

A special message from your Moderators...

This is USNA-Net's sixth Thanksgiving since its inception in 1998. Sandi
and I have a lot for which to be thankful. With membership of over 3,000
USNA Families, we are thankful for our organization's growth and the support
of so many wonderful members over the years, some who have shared and moved
on and others who will be with us for many years to come.

As we sit at our Thanksgiving dinner today, we will be joining thousands of
fellow parents in giving thanks for being able to be part of this remarkable
Navy Family. Never in our wildest dreams in 1998 did we envision building
such a wonderful and caring organization as USNA-Net has become... All
because of the giving and selflessness that is the hallmark of being a USNA
Family member.

We give thanks for our members' support in meeting our needs each year in
our annual fund drive and for the dedication and sacrifice of our Advisors
who give so much of their time and effort in the day to day operations of
USNA-Net.

We give thanks for the thousands of member who have volunteered to be part
of our Safe Harbor Program, rushing to the aid of Midshipmen around the
world, day and night, who find themselves stranded or in need of assistance
away from the Yard.

But most of all, Sandi and I are thankful for the friendships we have made
over these past six years. You never know how blessed you really are until
you stop to realize that you have helped and touched the lives of so many
over the years.

So to all of you who have made us your friends, whether you write often or
simply read what our group shares each day, we'd like to extend our warmest
regards for a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.

May your day be filled with love and happiness, surrounded by family and
friends, today and every day.

Mike and Sandi

NAVAL ACADEMY ACCEPTS BID TO The EV1.net HOUSTON BOWL

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk announced
Friday that Navy has accepted an invitation to play in the EV1.net Houston
Bowl against an opponent yet to be determined from the Big 12. The game
will be played on Dec. 30 at Reliant Stadium in Houston and televised by
ESPN.

"Bringing our football team to the best host city in America is as good as
it gets. Houston is a spectacular city for big time events," said Gladchuk.
"I am certain those affiliated with Navy who visit for this prestigious bowl
game will be immeasurably impressed with what Jerry Ippoliti and his bowl
committee have created. I believe Navy fans will turn out by the thousands
to enjoy the city's enthusiastic hospitality, while cheering on the best
football team we've fielded in many years. The Navy, Marines, our alumni
and fans are preparing to "invade" Houston with a winning spirit and a
sincere sense of appreciation for being selected."

"This is exciting news for our football program. I couldn't be happier for
our players and coaching staff in getting this opportunity," said head
football coach Paul Johnson. "These young men have earned this through
their dedication in the weight room and on the practice field starting last
winter and their unwavering faith that we would turn this program around.
When we started the year, one of our goals was to make it to a bowl game and
now that has been accomplished. We still have one major goal left and that
is to beat Army and win the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy on Dec. 6."

"We are pleased and excited to have one of our national military academies
accept a bid to the EV1.net Houston Bowl," said Jerry Ippoliti, President
and CEO of the EV1.net Houston Bowl. "Navy football brings to our bowl a
nation-leading rushing team, a coach of the year candidate in Paul Johnson
and the likely winner of the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy.

The 2003 season has already been a season to remember for the Midshipmen as
Navy has posted a 7-4 record heading into the Dec. 6 contest against West
Point. A victory over the Black Knights would give the Mids eight wins and
the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy, which is presented annually to the winner
of football competition among the three major service academies and is named
in honor of the President of the United States.

Navy possesses one of the most potent offenses in the country, leading the
nation in rushing (323.09), and is 24th in total offense (433 yards per
game) and 28th in scoring offense (31.6 points per contest). The Mids have
set school records for rushing yards (3,554 yards), average yards per rush
(5.5), average rushing yards per game (323.1), rushing touchdowns (38),
total offense (4,763 yards), average yards per game (433 yards per contest)
and yards per play (6.2). The Mids are also just the second team in NCAA
history to have four 1,000-yard career rushers on the same team.

Quarterback Craig Candeto and fullback Kyle Eckel lead the offense. Candeto
has rushed for 964 yards and 14 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,052 yards
and seven touchdowns. Eckel has rushed for 1,026 yards and eight
touchdowns.

Although the offense gets most of the glory, the defense deserves its share
of credit for Navy's turnaround, as well. Defensive coordinator Buddy
Green's units one of the most improved in the country, led by the nation's
fourth-ranked pass defense (157.4 yards per game). The Mids are 31st in the
nation in total defense (347.91) and 41st in scoring defense (21.73).

The defense is led by outside linebacker Eddie Carthan and safety Josh
Smith. Carthan has recorded 64 tackles on the year and leads the Mids in
tackles for a loss (11.5), sacks (5) and interceptions (4). Smith leads the
team in tackles with 95, has picked off three passes and has recovered two
fumbles.

This will be Navy's 10th bowl game appearance and the Mids have posted a
record of 4-4-1. Navy's last appearance in a bowl game was a memorable one
as Navy rallied for 14 fourth-quarter points to upset California, 42-38, in
the 1996 Jeep Eagle Aloha Bowl.

This is the fourth year for a bowl game in Houston. It was called the
galleryfurniture.com bowl in 2000 and 2001 and the Houston Bowl in 2002.
Last year, Oklahoma State defeated Southern Miss, 33-23. Reliant Stadium,
the home of the EV1.net Houston Bowl, is also home of the Houston Texas and
is the site of the 2004 Super Bowl.

Ticket information will be released Monday, but tickets will be available at
the Naval Academy Ticket Office in Ricketts Hall or by calling
1-800-US4-NAVY.

record of 4-4-1.

A special message from your Moderators...

If I can impose upon our members just one more time about TICKETS for
Army/Navy...

There are still 18 USNA-Net member families desperately looking for extra
tickets in our Classified Ads.

I spent the entire day verifying each remaining ad to remove those who had
found tickets through our ads and, as of this writing, all of the ads
looking to buy tickets are still in need.

PLEASE, if you have even one spare ticket, go to our classifieds and find
another member who would really needs that ticket. Just go to our web site
at www.USNA.org and click on "Classifieds" in the main menu on the left of
the main page. You will be asked for the User Name and Password. Here they
are...

User Name: brigade
Password: navy58army12 (all lowercase - no spaces)

So far this year, the Classified Ads have been a huge success. We've helped
over 60 families find the extra tickets they needed. Please help those 18
other families who need tickets by offering them your spares. If you act
now, there will still be time to Overnight the tickets before everyone has
to leave for the game.

Thanks to all who have already helped.
