A special message from your Moderators...

This is just a short note to remind our members of a policy (not a rule)
adopted over a year ago and probably forgotten in all the time that has past
since then.

Our server is set up to automatically reject any message which "Quotes the
Original Message" in a reply message. We do this to keep the length of
messages to the bare minimum (makes 'em easier to read and faster to
download) and to minimize the text that we place into the Archives.

Nobody likes getting messages with copies of copies of copies of other stuff
in the body of the message, so our server's filters automatically read the
messages, look for copies of pervious messages and Bounce those that
duplicate older messages.

All of our messages are immediately recorded in our Archives as they are
posted. Every email since day one, over six years ago. Since the new
policy has been in effect, the Archives are much cleaner, smaller, and
easier to search. And our message traffic is much more concise, without all
those copies of previous messages to wade through. I think you'll all
agree.

So this is just a reminder that if you want to reply to a message sent to
our lists, set your email program to NOT quote the original in the body of
your new message. If you need to remind readers of a point in the original
message (or the one or two points to which you are replying) simply use
brackets <<< like these >>> to enclose a short sentence or two.

Remembering this policy when you respond will help get your message
delivered on your first attempt. Don't worry if you happen to forget. It's
no big deal. Your message (with an original message included) will simply
be bounced to the Moderators instead of being delivered to the general
membership. Unfortunately, the Moderators don't always have the time to fix
the messages and forward them on for you, so we're more likely just to zip
you a note about not quoting the original and ask that you resend it without
the original a second time.

Thanks for understanding and for helping us to make all of our USNA-Net
experiences more pleasant.

A special message from your Moderators...

Great News! There has been a change in airport security regulations which
will now permit family members to accompany your Mid to the actual departure
gate and to meet them at their arrival gate INSIDE the airport security
area.

Family members must obtain a pass from the airline on which their Mid is
traveling and must present a photo ID and process through the security
checkpoint as if they were traveling but they are permitted to go to the
acual gate by this new regulation.

See the message below for details and view the actual authorizing document
(you may want to print it out and take it with you to the airport in case an
airline employee isn't aware of the new regs) at ...
http://www.USNA-Net.org/security.html

Enjoy that next arrival a bit more. And our collective thanks to David
Woodward (Flannery '08) for the heads up on this information.

Subject: Airport Gate Passes for Military Passenger Family Members

CLASSIFICATION:UNCLASSIFIED

REQUEST WIDEST DISSEMINATION POSSIBLE

Executive Assistants,

The Transportation Security Administration has issued a directive pertaining
to military passengers at U.S. airports. According to Security Directive
1544-01-10w, families of military members may be granted access to sterile
concourse areas to escort the military passenger to the gate or to meet a
military passenger's inbound arrival at the gate.

The family member can go to the airline that the military member is flying
on and receive a pass to go to the gate. They will be required to have a
pass and a photo ID to get through the security checkpoint. This is a
wonderful opportunity for families to stay with the departing military
member longer before they depart, or to be able to greet them at the gate
upon their arrival. This is a wonderful change, spread the word.
