Your missing a free program called a Java Plug In for your computer that no
longer comes as part of Windows ever since Microsoft lost a law suit to Sun
Microsystems about two years ago. If you computer is newer than that, the
chances are that you have to install an extra program to view these pics.

To get your browser to run Java Applications, read the instructions on this
page for your specific browser. If you need to download the Plug In, (you
probably do), follow the instructions...

http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/java_browsers.html#java11

The Java Plug In is free to download.

Next, in order to view the pics on our pages after you have installed the
Plug In, you must have Java Enabled in your Browser. For instructions on
how to set this in your Browser, see...

http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/java_browsers.html#enable

It is simple and easy to do. Besides, our web site is not the only site to
use these programs to make your browsing better. You're missing out on a
lot of great visuals by not using Java Applets.

A special message from your Moderators...

Our email server was set up back in February of 2004 to intercept all
messages which quote an Original Message in a response and redirect it to
the Moderators.

The reason for this is that we feel it cuts way down on the size of the mail
we all get and it keeps our Archives free of copies of copies of copies of
messages and makes reading and searching the archives much easier and
faster.

When the server sees a message which quotes the entire Original Message in
the body of the response, the serve intercepts the message and sends it to
us for special attention. This creates extra work for us, stripping the
original and forwarding on those messages.

So this is a PLEA to set your program to NOT quote the original in your
responses. For instructions on how to permanently fix this, visit our web
site at...
    http://www.usna-net.org/mail/original.html

(Please note that only USNA-Net mailing list servers are set up this way.
The less professional ones allow their members to send along copies of
copies of copies - some even allow members to quote entire digest versions.
We have the expertise and software to automate our filtering of originals.)

Set your program now to NOT quote the original and save your Moderators some
extra work. If you need to remind folks about the message to which you are
responding, cut and paste a few lines between <<< >>> characters.

Thanks.

Go Navy...

We get so involved in our Mids at the Academy that we sometimes forget that
the Academy, it's buildings and grounds are often used for things other than
the education of our Mids.

The funerals of many USNA grads are held in the Chapel - and many are buried
in the cemetary at Hospital Point. In the very near future there will be
two such funerals held at the Academy.

On July 19th the funeral and burial of LCDR Eric Kristensen, USNA Class of
1995 will be held. LCDR Kristensen was one of the SEALs killed in the recent
Helo crash in Afghanistan.

On July 23rd, USNA will host and conduct the funeral and burial service for
Vietnam POW and Medal of Honor recipient and Naval Academy Distinguished
Graduate retired VADM James Stockdale, USNA Class of 1946. I am told that
the officers at the Academy on TAD and the Cadre will line the path from the
Chapel to the cemetary in this most solemn ceremony.

But it's not only funerals that are held at the Academy. Were you aware
that the Superintendent's home is often used for entertaining dignitaries
from Washington DC? We were told that this historic home hosts the 3rd or
4th most receptions and parties in the Annapolis/DC area.

And on July 22nd, USNA will host the Change of Command Ceremony for the
Chief of Naval Operations. The ceremony will be held in T-Court. Admiral
Vern Clark will be relieved by Admiral Michael Mullen, USNA Class of 1968.
The ceremony is only for invited guests and is not open to the public.
Admiral Mullen's previous command was as Commander, Joint Force Command
Naples, with operational responsibility for NATO missions in the Balkans,
Iraq, and the Mediterranean - AND Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe,
responsible for providing overall command, operational control, and
coordination of U.S. naval forces in the European Command area of
responsibility. <<<Of interest to me... While Admiral Mullen was in Naples,
he was also my son's immediate supervisor. Michael was an advisor to the
Commander on theater operational issues and agenda planning and retains the
same position for Adm Mullen's replacement, Admiral Ulrich.>>>

Access to the Academy will be severly restricted on the 22nd and 23rd due to
heightened security requirements for the events held on those days.

A special message from your Moderators...

Here's something different ... The CNO Change of Command Ceremony I
mentioned on Thursday will be broadcast LIVE via the web on www.Navy.mil
You will remember that Admiral Mike Mullen will relieve Admiral Vern Clark
as the 28th Chief of Naval Operations during a change of command ceremony
July 22 in T-Court at the Naval Academy.

The ceremony will be broadcast worldwide on the official Navy website:
www.Navy.mil You will be able to connect via the special CNO Change of
Command link under the Streaming Media portion of Navy.mil to see the live
webcast at 10 a.m. EDT.

One other thing - you may also recall my telling you about the frequency of
entertaining at the Superintendent's home (Buchanan House). I said that
that this historic home hosts the 3rd or 4th most receptions and parties in
the Annapolis/DC area.

I was wrong...

Buchanan House is the second most entertained in home in the United
States...... second ONLY to the White House!! WOW!! :>)

A special message from your Moderators...

I've been a bit quiet about it for the past week but I fear that I must
remind you that we are in the midst of our Annual Fund Drive which keeps
USNA-Net running for the next year. We try not to nag at you constantly or
be too intrusive with these requests but in order for this service to
survive, we need your help.

We're at the half way mark on our way to our annual goal of raising $9,800.
The annual budget is detailed on our web site at www.USNA.org behind the
blue DONATE button on the main page. So far, we've heard from 261 members
who have sent in a check or made an on-line donation to help support our
on-going support network. The thing is, we have 3,511 Families enrolled in
USNA-Net.

If you meant to donate this time around and haven't gotten to it, PLEASE
take a moment to send in a donation today. It's purely voluntary as is all
the time that the Moderators, Advisors and SysOp put in making this service
work, 24/7/365.

Donating is quick, easy and 100% secure using our on-line Secure Server.
Just click on the blue DONATE button on our main page at www.USNA.org

OR... If you're more comfortable with the mail, just make out a check made
payable to

    USNA-Net, Inc.
    1457 E. Crossings Place
    Westlake, OH 44145

Whatever you decide, your assistance is very much appreciated. Remember
that USNA-Net is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization and relies upon the
generosity of it's members for its continued operation. Without YOUR
support, our organization could not maintain our web site, the many
associated mailing lists for Parents of Midshipmen and all of the other
wonderful programs brought to you by USNA-Net.

But let's spend just a minute talking about VALUE. A few days ago, a parent
wrote that their family was saving over $1,000 annually on car insurance
because of information they got from our Plebe list. While that may be an
extreme case, we all know of some way that being a member of USNA-Net has
saved us money or passed along information which had a value far greater
than what we ever expected. And how can any of us ever put a value on
membership in USNA-Net?

Face it, we need YOUR support... to continue with the lists... to continue
our Safe Harbor Program... to maintain our web site and Archives. We don't
need much, but we do need you to actually take a moment to send in a
donation... Whatever you can afford this week or this month.

To those who have already generously donated to our cause, THANK YOU !!!

Please do your part.

You just wouldn't believe the new and better things that are on the horizon
for this organization! Stuff that will knock your socks off!!! But we need
to make sure that we have our financial house in order before we can move on
to bigger and better things. Won't you help us to help other parents?

Donate today.

On behalf of USNA-Net and its 3,500+ other members,

Thank you.

A special message from your Moderators...

Here's a helpful hint that I try to pass along to Plebe Parents in time for
PPW...
(This even works for Firstie Parents over FPW.)

Since most of you will be in Annapolis for Parent Weekend (PPW or FPW), you
would do yourself a huge favor if you come home with a copy of the LOCAL
YELLOW PAGES. Since Annapolis is a relatively small city, the Yellow Pages
are included in the main Telephone Directory.

How you come up with a copy is left to you but having a copy over the next
four years will be a real blessing, many times over. We know of several
members who have asked their hotel and been given an extra copy.

While the Directory is available from the phone company, they want a small
fortune for mailing you a new copy. You might be able to get one from your
Plebe's Sponsor Parents. Be creative but get your hands on a copy to take
home. :>)

It's the best thing Sandi and I had ever done while Michael was at the
Academy. Every time we needed the name of a place to rent, buy or find some
item or service, the Yellow pages were there to give us the local addresses
and phone numbers. Everything from Storage Centers to Caterers to
Wheelchair rentals to beauty salons, day spas and bakeries for Birthday
cakes... they're all listed in the local Yellow Pages.

Do yourself a favor and find a copy over PPW.

Go Navy.

meant to donate but who haven't yet found the time, to do your part to help
us with our operating expenses for the next twelve month.

USNA-Net is a totally volunteer organization, run BY parents FOR parents of
Midshipmen. We are the largest Parental Self-Help organization of our kind
in the world. We've watched our membership grow from a handful of parents
back in 1998 to over 3,500 Families today and our web site is now over 700
pages of information dedicated to USNA Parents.

Keeping that resource on-line and operating all the mailing Lists for
Parents generates real costs for server space, software and communications
facilities. We've posted our annual budget on the web site. It isn't much
in the grand scheme of things but we have to generate the funds to cover
those costs.

We do this through the generosity of our members. Members like you. So if
you value your membership in USNA-Net and the endless stream of Advice and
Support you have received since you became a member, please do what you can
to help us with our Fund Raiser.

You can donate on-line in a matter of minutes by going to our web site at
www.USNA.org and clicking on the Blue DONATE Button on the main page. OR...
You can send us a check at the address you find there.

Either way, we need you to help. It isn't how much you donate, it's the
fact that you come forward and help. Your fellow parents are counting on
you to do what you can for our organization. We have some really exciting
new things in the works but we have to cover our regular operating expenses
for the next twelve months in order to make it all happen.

Think of it this way, if we asked you for $3.00 per month for a magazine
subscription that contained all the news, photos and support you get from
USNA-Net, you'd jump at the chance to buy a subscription. Membership in
USNA-Net is even better. It doesn't come just once a month. It's delivered
right into your home computer every day, 24/7/365. And what magazine can
you write to and get back dozens of great answers and words of encouragement
within hours?

Please. Won't you help us to help other parents?

DONATE TODAY.
