A special message from your Moderators...

The Department of Defense has begun enforcing a new regulation which bans
the use of HAND HELD cell phones which operating a vehicle on All Military
Installations. It appears that Hands Free Phones are permitted but driving
while holding a cell phone is now prohibited.

Each Military Installation will begin enforcing the regulation when they
decide but it's only a matter of time before all Military Installations,
including the Academy, will be enforcing the new regulations.

For details on the new regs, visit our web site at www.USNA.org and read the
article that links from the center of the main page.

All you '06 and '07 parents out there who have Mids who are permitted to
drive onto the Yard should take note along with all the local parents and
Sponsors who regularly visit the Academy.

Go Navy...

The Naval Academy has received questions regarding the upcoming Buena Vista
Pictures movie "ANNAPOLIS" (scheduled for release later this month) and any
role the Academy may have had in developing this motion picture. The
Superintendent asked that we provide the following information to answer
these questions and clarify what has occurred.

The Naval Academy's mission focuses foremost on developing young men and
women morally, mentally and physically into future leaders of character for
our Navy and Marine Corps.

"ANNAPOLIS" is a fictional film that purports to take place at the Naval
Academy. The movie was filmed in Philadelphia and was made without the
support of the Naval Academy, the Navy or the Department of Defense. No
midshipmen, Academy staff or active duty Navy personnel took part in the
filming.

This movie did not receive the Academybs support because the advance scripts
that were reviewed in 2004 did not realistically portray the Naval Academy
or how the Academy develops and trains future Navy and Marine Corps
officers. Early in this project, the Academy offered suggestions for ways
the script could realistically portray Academy life, its mission and the
midshipmen. The Academy provided research, facilitated visits to the
Academy, afforded contact with midshipmen, and provided extensive script
notes to the producers. Their objective was to help the film-makers develop
a script that could receive official support. Ultimately, the film-makers
made the decision to shoot the film elsewhere and forego further contact
with the Naval Academy.

... You may (also) find reviewing previous issues of Shipmate magazine as
well as the official Naval Academy ( www.usna.edu ) and Alumni Association
( www.usna.com ) websites are helpful sources of current, factual
information on the Academy. Any questions can also be referred to the USNA
Public Affairs Office at 410-293-2292 or email: mediarelations@usna.edu

A special message from your Moderators...

Marion and all...

First, let me thank you, Marion, for your support and your kind words.
Everyone has days when they could use a pat on the back ... and your timing
was perfect.

It's great to know that the hours and the effort is appreciated. Mike and I
have been doing this for so long that it's become a part of our lives ...
:>) We never leave the house without call-forwarding ... or taking the file
of Safe Harbor members with us - just in case. We have taken private emails
and calls from parents and Mids every hour of the day and night. We have
been awakened in the middle of the night to help a stranded mid. This is
not a complaint - we are always happy to do this - and your sons and
daughters have always been, not only grateful, but courteous and
well-mannered, when we help them ... and you parents have always answered
that late night call with no complaints and eagerness to help! It's true
that this could not work without you!

In short, I have always felt honored to be able to help in any way ... even
if it is just providing the forum where you can connect with each other.
Because the real heroes of the USNA-Net story are YOU ... each and every
parent, relative and sponsor who has given so freely of your experiences,
your counsel and your time. Without you, there would be no USNA-Net.

Those of us who are upper-class and alum parents have all been there, and
each of us can share our experiences and, sometimes, our hard won knowledge
... my son graduated in 2000 ... but that does not mean that I don't have
things I can share ... after all, we all share something very special ...
our sons and daughter, and their commitment to serve.

Marion, I thought you might be interested to know that the USNA-Net website
got it's 1,500,000th hit on Christmas Day! What a wonderful present that
was!! We ONLY count hits to the main page ... and only NEW instances - so
if you go to the website, click through to the Photo Gallery, look at four
different photo pages and then go back to the main page ... you count as
just ONE hit. Here's a short list of milestones:

500,000 hits 10/16/02
1 million hits 07/13/04
1,250,000 hits 04/19/05
1.500,000 hits 12/25/05

I'm happy to have the opportunity to thank each and every one of you who
have been so supportive, who regularly visit our website, who have offered
their help and their experiences and who have used the lists for information
and support ... I consider each and every one of you an integral part of our
Navy family!!

By the way ... there are lots of changes coming ... new things are waiting
right around the corner ... USNA-Net is still growing and evolving ... look
for announcements real soon!!

We are doing server maintenance. Please ignore the message.

It wasn't supposed to go to the membership. We were testing an improved

least not yet. :>)

A special message from your Moderators...

Dear friends,

As our lists have made good use of Anonymous postings recently , I feel that
I must explain a few important points with regard to them.

Anonymous email is used to protect the identity of the writer or the
writer's Mid, family, etc. The Identity of an Anonymous writer will never
be shared with anyone - not other members and certainly, never with the
Academy. Your privacy is paramount in all things when you deal with
USNA-Net.

Two important things that you should keep in mind with regard to Anonymous
email...

1.) We will NOT post a message to the lists under the guise of Anonymity
which seeks to attack another member or the Academy. Don't even bother to
ask.

2.) When you reply to an Anonymous message, please, it at all possible,
write back to the list and use your name & email address on your reply. In
this way, you share your advice with other members who may have the same
question but might have been reluctant to write. Sharing Experience and
Advice ON THE LISTS is what makes this service so valuable to so many.

Just replying to "Anonymous@USNA-Net.org" does NOT send your message to the
individual. Instead, it routes the reply to the Moderators who must then
determine what you wanted to do with your reply. Did you intend to share it
with the entire list or just the anonymous individual? AND, did you want to
be identified or also remain anonymous? When you reply, PLEASE let us know
how you want us to handle your reply. It will save lots of time and effort
for everyone.

Thanks for your cooperation...

Go Navy!!!
