A special message from your USNA-Net Moderators...
==================================================

Again this year, USNA-Net Parents are being asked to help the USNA
Chaplain's Center by providing a few Care Packages for those Plebes who will
not be getting them from home. Every class has its share of new Plebes
whose parents are not able to provide Care Packages or who are older, priors
or foreign nationals, etc. who don't have relatives to send them even one
care package.

While their numbers are few, they can feel very left out when care packages
arrive for companymates and they know that one isn't coming for them.

If you'd like to assist in the program, put together a regular care package
(one in plastic shoebox size container would be really nice since the
container will last the entire four years in their Con Locker) and address
it to...

USNA-Net Care Packages
c/o USNA Chaplain's Center
101 Cooper Road
Annapolis MD 21402

Suggested contents (Direct from the Chaplain's Center)...

Rice Krispy Bars, Power Bars, Granola Bars, Fruit Bars, Dried Fruit, etc.
Nuts (salted Peanuts, almonds, mixed nuts, etc.)
HOME MADE COOKIES
Twizzlers, Hard Candy, Something to suck on, etc.
While junk food is frowned upon, a piece of hard candy to suck on in the
evening can really be wonderful when you've been screaming all day.)

Recommendations from our Parents' Handbook...

Water-packed Tuna (Pop-tops only)
Small Cans of Fruit or Applesauce (Pop-tops only)
Cup-o-Soup, Beef Jerky
Mole skin for blisters
Masking Tape
Assorted Bandages
Spray sunscreen
A Bar of unscented Antibacterial Soap
A small AMERICAN FLAG (3" x 5" with a small display stand)
Cleaning Supplies
White School Chalk to cover marks on White Uniforms
Shout Wipes and Bleach Pens for stains
White-Out for quick touch up on shoes
Febrezze (very important for Plebe Summer)
Clean, lint free cotton rags/cloths for shoe shining, room cleaning, etc.
        (Makes for great packing/filler material)

It is important that these packages ARRIVE NO LATER THAN JULY 11th.

So there's not much time but it will really be appreciated. The Chaplain's
Center is hoping to get around 50 Care Packages. I'll bet we can easily do
that and more if we just put ourselves into motion. No package will be
wasted.

You may include a short NOTE OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND SUPPORT and sign it if you
wish or just sign it as coming from a fellow Plebe's parent. Either way,
you just may make the difference in some young man's or woman's Plebe
Summer. One that might convince him/her to stay. It's our chance to do
something really thoughtful and beneficial to so many young people.

Please give it some thought. I guarantee, you'll feel better just knowing
that somewhere inside Bancroft next week, there is a Plebe who knows that
someone cared enough to put together a care package just for him or her.

The Chaplain's Center will take care of distributing them as they do every
year.

Please send what you can.

Go Navy...

A special message from your USNA-Net Moderators...
==================================================

Did you notice the new "Donate" button on the main page of our web site at
www.USNA.org? It's there because we need your donations to continue our
operation for another year.

Can it be another year already? Actually, it's been almost 13 months. (We
tried to stretch it out as far as we could.) It was June 15th of last year
when USNA-Net last asked for your assistance, but our expenses have finally
caught up with our checkbook and we need your help again.

Each year around this time, USNA-Net goes to its members with a request for
support and each year, you come through in resounding fashion. We try hard
not to be asking for funds all the time (we hate fund drives as much as
anyone else) and we've found that if we keep our requests to about once a
year and do our best to minimize our expenses, we get all the support we
need to keep us running from one year to the next.

Here's the good news... This last spring, as many of you will remember, we
moved our entire operation to a new server. In leaving our previous server
and moving to our new one we were able to cut our monthly rental for the
"blade" from $525 to $160 per month. (Tech support can be expensive, so
we've gone totally out on our own. We're now doing all this without any
hand holding.)

The new server also provides eleven thousand percent more disk storage
space. (Think of all the pictures, videos and email we can archive!!! -
Not just for us but for all of the Parent's Club web sites we host as well.)

What this means is that we've reduced our projected annual expenses from
$11,000 last year to $5,600 this year (That's half !). All the while
providing more services, faster downloads and provision for even more growth
in the future.

Speaking of growth, we've grown a lot in the past year...

- Our total membership is up 200 Families and is now over 3,600 including
hundreds of new families in the Class of 2010.

- Our Website had 340,000 visitors in the past 12 months, recording our
1,500,000th visitor on Dec. 25th. The website has had another 150,000
visitors since then.

- Our Archives have swollen to over 18 Million words of valuable Advice
and Support making it the largest repository of USNA Parental Advice
anywhere.

- We've added the SWORD list for Single, Widowed Or Remarried / Divorced
Parents so that we can help them in their special circumstances.

- We've added our Clubs list for Local Parents Club Officers and
Chairpersons.

- We've added thousands of photographs to our Photo Gallery - more this
Plebe Summer than ever before in our history.

- There are new Wallpapers, Postcards and Screensavers for our members to
use.

- Our www.USNA.org web site now has over 750 pages of information for
parents.

- We now host 41 Local Parents Club Websites on our new server with their
own domain names at no costs to the clubs.

- We continue our Safe Harbor Program, now with over 1,400 volunteer
families registered to render assistance any hour of the day or night to
Mids across the country. Thank you to the dozens of families who answered
the call in the past 12 months when our Mids needed you.

It's been a wonderfully fulfilling year, indeed.

We were able to do all of this because of your generosity. Last year when
we asked for your support, your response was overwhelming and in just a few
weeks, we reached our Fund Raising goal. While every hour of time provided
by all of those who volunteer to operate USNA-Net, either directly or
indirectly, is donated without compensation, we still incur real operating
expenses for our server and its connection to the Internet, so we will need
your help again this year to help us defray our expenses and keep USNA-Net
on the Internet and fulfilling its Mission of "Parents Helping Parents."

For those of you who have contributed in the past, we are asking that you do
it again - only once, for the next 12 months. For those of our members who
are new to USNA-Net, especially those members of the Class of 2010 who
learned so much during the past months, we ask that you take a moment to
send in whatever you can afford.

Many of you have written to express your thanks for all that our lists have
meant to you as you left your Plebes on I-Day and had have had your friends
on USNA-Net to help you endure the rigors of separation through the summer.
This is now your opportunity to say Thank You to the entire group with a
donation to help keep us going for another year.

Rest assured, we totally understand the restraints on family budgets. It's
tough sometimes to come up with a few extra dollars. If you can't send
something now, we understand. BUT... We really do need our members'
support.

You can find all of the details about how to donate on our website's main
page by clicking on the blue DONATE button in the Quick Links on the left
side.

On-line donations (via our secure server) may be made using your Visa or
Mastercard with total security and absolute privacy. If you prefer, there
is also an address there to which you may mail a check.

So on behalf of all of the members of USNA-Net and our Board of Advisors...

Thanks so much for your continued support.

Plebe parents:

Did you know that the plebes have been issued their Service Dress
Blues(SDB's)?? Well, Jim Doherty (Jim 07) took some photos on Tuesday and
managed to find some of them standing in line, obviously holding this new
acquisition ... along with some other wonderful close-ups of your plebes!

A member who wishes to remain anonymous, yet wanted to share some great
photos taken at PEP and on the Yard, sent in a terrific collection with
plenty of faces - you Cadre parents may see your mid, too!

And, once more, Barbara Hendricks and her dog took a walk to the Yard
yesterday to catch the Cadre putting the plebes through their paces,
practicing for the parade scheduled for today. She managed to get a lot of
"portrait" shots of the plebes - it would be impossible for any mother to
mistake her son or daughter in one of them. There will be no "I'm sure
that's him. only to find out later (from their plebe) that it's not them at
all! :>)

and finally, Lisa Hellerman (Keith 10) went over to Greenport to grab some
shots of the YP's coming into Long Island ... with some more shots of them
having fun on that carousel!

All together, I've loaded 236 new photos!

Thanks to Lisa, Jim, Barbara and our anonymous photographer, for sharing
these wonderful photos!

I've created a new Plebe Summer Photo page for the new plebe photos. To
find them, simply go to the USNA-Net website: www.usna.org and click onto
"Photo Gallery" from the menu items on the left side of the page. Then,
just click onto "Plebe Summer 2006 Part III" at the top of the page. Lisa's
photos will be on the "Summer Blocks 2006" photo page directly beneath.

Enjoy these newest photos!

I know that many of our members enjoy participating in On-Line Voting
Contests so....

Our Church Deacon's son is a Captain in the US Army having returned from a
13 month tour of duty in Tikrit, Iraq. When he returned home, he entered an
on-line Essay Contest sponsored by a national battery company. His essay
has earned him a place as one of FIVE Finalists and he has a real shot at
winning the Grand Prize - A Frame Up Restoration (valued at $50,000) of his
'72 Chevelle plus a spot on Dream Car Garage on SpeedTV and a trip to the
SEMA Car Show in Las Vegas plus lot of other extras. Even the sponsors want
this All American Combat Veteran to win. Imagine all the great press for
everyone involved! But they need YOUR vote to make it happen.

Eric is the only Veteran in the finals, and we thought you'd enjoy voting
for him. He is an Apache Attach Helicopter Pilot and spent a lot of his
free time in Tikrit dreaming of coming home to finish the restoration of his
'72 Chevelle. Just getting into the finals has gotten him $2,000 in custom
restoration parts and now, with YOUR help, he may win the whole shebang.

Here's our chance to clinch a win for this great young man. To vote for
him, just go to www.USNA.org and read the instructions in the main article
in the middle of the main page.

Baseball, Apple Pie and Chevrolet. Noting is more American than that.

Pass the link to all your fiends.
