A special message from your USNA-Net Moderators...
==================================================

With the Academic Year underway and Plebe Summer a distant memory, it seems
hard to believe that some of you are relatively new to our group. It seems
that we already know each and every one of you. Sandi and I certainly met
many of you on this past I-Day.

We've had many of you tell us that USNA.org has been a big help in getting
through the summer, whether it was this past one or a Plebe Summer a few
years back. We appreciate the kind words and work all the harder to help
because of them. The best part of our service is that it's sole purpose is
to provide communications between parents. We're here to help parents by
putting them in touch with other parents who have walked in those shoes and
who understand YOUR concerns, interests and pride in your Mid.

As most of you know, USNA.org is an all volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit
organization which relies solely on the generosity of its 4,086 members for
support to meet its financial needs. It's that time again. We're beginning
our 2007 Fall Fundraiser.

This year our membership rolls have swollen to almost 4,100 members, the
biggest academy parental support group in the country, made up of people
just like you... Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and a host of
others who joined us to support each other in the good times and the not so
good times. USNA.org has been here for you, 24/7/365. We're here when you
want to talk; when you want to ask questions or when you want to provide
support or answers to questions, whether it's at 0230 in the morning or 4 in
the afternoon... Every day of the week. Even Holidays. We're just a mouse
click away.

We know that almost 2,000 of you start your day with our Annapolis Weather
Report, while others check their mail over a cup of coffee at work and the
rest read the daily mail before settling in for the night. We've become a
welcome part of many of your lives. Well, it's time again to ask you for
YOUR support.

All of the Moderators, Advisors and Tech Support personnel work tirelessly
at USNA.org without compensation. We're all Volunteers but we still have
real world costs for server space, software, connections and the other items
in our $2,800 budget which may be found at
www.USNA.org/donate07b/budget.html.

You've got to admit that we offer Parents a lot...
- Eight Different Mailing Lists... USNA-Net, Family, Plebe, Weather,
Prayer, SWORD, Clubs and TheGouge;
- Our Web Site at www.USNA.org with over 800 pages of information
including our Parents' Handbook;
- 24,000+ Photos of Mids in our Photo Gallery - spanning six years of our
History;
-   Over 19 MILLION words of Advice and Support in our searchable Archives;
-   The Classified Ads where hundreds of members advertise their wares;
-   A Members' Roster with pictures and bios of our members and their Mids;
-   Screen Savers and Wallpaper for your computer screen;
-   Free EPostcards with USNA photos that are safe and free from viruses;
-   Navy Sport Headlines updated hourly - 24/7;
- Calendars, Schedules, Maps, Announcements and other important
information sent directly to your mailbox;
- 42 Club Web Sites across the country hosted under their own Domain Name
at no charge to the clubs;
- The Safe Harbor Program providing emergency assistance to Mids 24/7/365
when they're traveling away from the Yard.

To Donate to our Fund Raiser, click here...

    http://www.USNA.org/donate07b

or on the DONATE button on our main page at www.USNA.org.

You may donate on-line using our Secure Server (with 256-Bit Data
Encryption) OR you can MAIL A CHECK to our headquarters address.

Members are asked to donate what they feel is the right amount for them.
Perhaps you weren't able to participate last Spring or weren't yet a member.
Whatever the case, your help is needed now.

Donate what you can. We really need YOUR help! Please do it today!

Annapolis, MD September 7, 2007
In case some of you have not yet received the letter from Capt. Klein it is
posted below, verbatim.

    (http://www.usna.edu//Commandant/Docs/DANT_letter_to_parents.doc)

Dear Parents,

I wanted to take this opportunity to respond to many of you who have voiced
concerns about our food service, and provide you with facts to help bring
you up to date on our actions.

First let me say how pleased I am with the start of the academic year. We
had a great summer of training, both for the upper-class and our plebes.
Classes are in full swing and the fall athletic season has begun. It's
encouraging to see the dedicated efforts of our midshipmen and staff as we
work to fulfill our mission of producing superb leaders for the Navy and
Marine Corps.

The Academy has always been fortunate to have an engaged and supportive
parents group. We're all tremendously proud of the Naval Academy and want
to help it move forward to ensure its continued success in meeting the
requirements of the Navy and Marine Corps we serve.

The Supe and his staff are setting a course to prepare your sons and
daughters to become the best junior officers in the Fleet; officers with
competence, character and compassion. To that end, all of us here at the
Academy are focused on developing our midshipmen morally, mentally, and
physically for the privilege of serving as leaders of Sailors and Marines
who volunteered to serve their country in a time of war.

One of our initial priorities was to reinstitute the practice of midshipmen
regularly eating meals together in King Hall. Our focus is better aligning
the Naval Academy with the Fleet, where our midshipmen will soon serve as
leaders. Food service and quality is important in the Navy and Marine
Corps. Eating together on messdecks, wardrooms and in ready rooms helps
officers, Sailors and Marines develop and maintain the relationships and
unit cohesiveness so important to units in the Fleet.

Midshipmen had been eating eight meals together per week, and in mid-August,
we increased that requirement to three meals per day, Sunday evening through
Friday noon- 15 meals per week - for the entire Brigade.

Unfortunately, we could have better anticipated the requirement for
increased meal quantities which left some midshipmen with inadequate amounts
of food. This was unacceptable and we made it a priority to ensure this
food distribution issue was quickly resolved.

To address these issues, we have been obtaining instant feedback from
midshipmen regarding the quality of food and using their suggestions to
improve our level of service. We have encouraged midshipmen - particularly
first class midshipmen as leaders - to report problems to our Food Service
Team and to their chain of command so corrective action can be taken
immediately.

Based on feedback and initiatives, we have taken the following corrective
actions:

  1.. We have significantly increased rations to meet demand to include
additional reserve trays of food standing by for distribution.
  2.. We have reviewed staffing and product support to ensure quality for
both food and service.
  3.. We have increased the presence of management staff in our dining
facilities during meals to answer any questions/concerns midshipmen may have
during meals.
  4.. Finally, we are demanding Positive, Proactive, and Intrusive
Leadership at all levels, critiquing each meal to ensure quality and
quantity.

On a related note, we've also developed a new menu which reflects our goal
of providing midshipmen with the proper diet to support both academic and
athletic goals and to educate and expose midshipmen to foods that are part
of a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle.

Food service and quality is important in the Navy and Marine Corps, and the
Superintendent and I are both committed to ensuring that the Brigade
receives the best food service available.

I hope this information has helped clarify the points some or you have
thoughtfully brought to our attention. I appreciate your support and
encouragement.

                                                                  Thank you,

                                                                   MARGARET
D. KLEIN

                                                                   Captain,
U.S. Navy

                                                                   Commandant
of Midshipmen

>From the USNA Parents Club of Arizona .....

Greetings, all.
Let me start by thanking everyone for your incredible support of our "Class
of 2008" Blanket Fundraiser. Orders this year are far, far beyond other
years! A portion of our proceeds goes directly back to the Class of 2008
for their Firstie year activities, the first installment of which is going
out this week. We have you all to thank for making this possible.

I have important ordering information to share with everyone. We don't want
anyone to be disappointed and not receive what they want in time for holiday
and commissioning gifts.
So... please read on for important deadlines.

2007 Holiday Deadline:
We have set a deadline of OCTOBER 1st for all holiday orders. That will
give us enough time to insure we have adequate blankets on hand and allow a
few extra days for shipping. We will not be able to process orders during
the months of November and December due to other time committments, so
please order now if you want blankets for holiday gifts.

Final Order Deadline:
We will resume the blanket sale in January, with a final order deadline of
FEBRUARY 1st. Be sure to plan ahead for commissioning gifts, and get those
orders in during the month of January. We will guarantee that you will have
your blankets in plenty of time for Commissioning, as long as we hear from
you by the February 1st deadline.

The order form is available on our club's website at www.usna-azpc.org

Again, thank you for your incredible support!

==================================================

Our Fall 2007 Fundraiser is still underway and we need your help in reaching
our goal for this drive. After all, the sooner we finish, the sooner we can
get back to business as usual.

We have almost 4,100 members and while we insist that membership is FREE to
anyone who qualifies, we still have a few real expenses for our server and
communications lines, etc. To cover those costs, we ask our membership to
send in what they can afford, twice a year. We're a lot like PBS. You
still get all the great programming whether you donate or not but you get to
know that your donation has made a difference in helping USNA.org to help
other parents of Midshipmen attending the US Naval Academy.

Our budget is a very modest $2,800 for the next six months. We have heard
from a number of you already but we still are only about half way to our
goal. It's easy to let donating slip our minds. We really do understand
and know that it's sometimes tough to find a few extra bucks in the family
budget but we need those of you who haven't stepped up to donate to make a
point of getting to it soon.

Think about all the help you've gotten from our organization (YOUR Navy
Family) during your membership. We try very hard to answer ALL of your
questions, provide you with valued and timely information and keep your
inbox from filling up with extraneous fluff. We take our Mission of
providing Advice and Support for fellow parents very seriously and work hard
to maintain our group's focus on that Mission.

Help us to continue that Mission for another six months by sending us a
donation today. You can click on the Donate Link on our web site's main
page at www.USNA.org. We take Visa and MasterCard on our SECURE server or
you can MAIL in a check made out to USNA-Net, Inc. at 1457 E. Crossings
Place, Westlake, OH 44145. Either way, won't you do something to help us to
continue helping others?

Thanks soooooo much for your kindness and continued generosity.
