Dear Members...

I hate doing this but I have to remind our membership that our Rules of
Operation are very specific when it comes to advertising. All messages
which advertise anything Wanted or For Sale are forbidden. This even
includes free things such as favors, ride shares, things to be given away or
bartered. Also, Commercial Endorsements or announcements of deals, sales
or special offers are prohibited.

It's not that we don't want our lists to be of help in these situations but
we're just too big to allow it to happen. Think about the numbers...

As of this morning, we have 4,074 unique members. If each of you sent just
ONE such message to our lists only ONCE A YEAR, we'd all find a dozen of
them in our inboxes EVERY DAY. That's assuming we had some way to figure
out whose turn it was tomorrow. :>)

We all have a time when we need tickets or want a copy of a video tape. In
four years, we all want to sell something of interest to other members or
need some sort of recommendation as to where to BUY something. But if we
allow one, we have to allow all of them. And that's a LOT of email that
doesn't address our Mission of Parents Helping Parents.

We already have members who complain about the high volume of mail. Those
who get more than they think is the "right" amount, leave the lists. If
enough of you leave, we won't have a list left. Or at least, not one that's
effective.

So to avoid a list swamped by daily and repeated pleas for this ticket or
that "thing," we offer our members our Classified Ads on our web site at
www.USNA.org. Free advertising of ANYTHING for all members. Just go to the
Classifieds, fill out the form and your ad will be there for all to see.
Best of all, the Classified Ads hang around for weeks or even months if
needed. That way, a member who doesn't need your "thing" today, doesn't
have to write back asking for you to post your offering again because they
didn't save your message when you sent it last week.

It's a great system, open ONLY to our members for placing ads and to
EVERYONE for reading them.

When you joined our service, you signed up for a Parental Advice and Support
Network, not the Home Shopping Club. We all get too much spam as it is and
it's the responsibility of all of us to adhere to the Rules under which we
subscribed.

So please try to remember that our Rules are there to make this service a
better place for all of us. They help us all to maintain our focus on our
Mission of Parents Helping Parents.

>From the Supe ... the Conference will begin after the mids return from
Thanksgiving leave ... Please give the Academy a chance to get the specifics
to your mids before you start asking them questions ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brigade, Faculty, and Staff Team,
The U. S. State Department officially announced today that the U.S. Naval
Academy will host "The Annapolis Conference" on 27 November.  This is a
historic event and the Naval Academy is honored to play such a vital role in
hosting this event.  Numerous foreign delegations and heads of state will be
present at the Naval Academy for this monumental event.  Consequently, their
presence will require a higher level of security around the Yard that will
have an impact on our daily routine, but the Naval Academy will still
execute its mission.  Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be altered at
times with all gates closing periodically for security purposes.
Additionally class schedule and operations on the Yard may be adjusted
accordingly.
Further information will be disseminated shortly, as soon as specific plans
are confirmed.  This is a historic event for the Naval Academy family and a
chance for us to be the "Face of the Navy" and the "Face of the Nation".
Remain flexible and be gracious hosts.
 Keep up the great work,
Jeff Fowler
VADM USN
Superintendent
