It's hard to believe that we've been doing this for ten years - and that our numbers continue to grow! I know that today there is much better communication between Mids and their parents and between parents and the Academy ... but it's still a very difficult thing to give over your child to the military and lose so much control. We can feel so isolated - not able to drop in at a moment's notice or call anytime during the day or night - like we could if they were at any civilian college. After parenting for 18 years this "cold turkey" approach can be almost painful ... When my son was at the Academy it was like pulling teeth to ever get him to say a word ... questions went unanswered ... rolled eyes were an everyday occurrence (and, yes, I could tell when he was doing it over the phone!) ... "non-communicative" put it mildly. Without these lists, I would truly have been lost! We have removed the donate button from the website.
