Chat Room How To...

If you're new to Chat Rooms Read this!

Here are a few helpful hints about how the Chat Room works.

• After you click on Click Here to Enter, a new window will open that is the Chat Room, itself.  Your name will appear in a column on the left along with everyone else that is in the Chat Room at that time.  Clicking once on anyone's name in the right hand column will show their email address in the bottom of the window.
• To end your visit in the Chat Room, say "Good Bye" to the group and close the Chat Room Window.
• All of the Chat windows are resizable by positioning your mouse pointer on an edge of the window and clicking/dragging the widnow's edge to a larger/smaller size.
• Once inside, go to the top menu and under Options, select the Font Name, Style, and Size that you prefer.
• As messages are received in the Chat Room, each message will be preceeded by the name of the sender, except yours.  When you send a line of text, your name will automatically be added to the beginning of the line for everyone else.  It just doesn't show on your screen since we assume you know who you are.
• To send a line of text, type your text in the white bar near the bottom of the Chat Room window and press enter when you are finished with your text.  Don't press enter to go to the next line of text.  The program will automatically wrap your text for you.  Pressing the enter key at the end of your line will send it on its way immediately.
• IMPORTANT...     Remember that this is fast but not instantaneous.   There will be a lag between when you send and when the rest of the group gets your message.  Please give others a chance to read and respond to your message BEFORE you send another line of text.
• Double clicking on someone's name will open yet another chat room with ONLY you and that individual in it so that you can carry on with a really private conversation.  Try the main room first to get the hang of things before you venture into a Private Chat Room with someone.  To end a Private Chat, just clost the Private Window.
• There is HELP in the main menu at the top of the Chat Room Window.  It has explanations for most of the features discussed here.  If you're really having trouble with the Room, send me an email by clicking and I will try to help you.
