September 11th has forever changed me
Not in a way that the world can see.

On that day, I felt disbelief, shock, and fear
I wanted to have my loved ones near.

I remember the faces, the fires, the holes
that have forever etched their pain in my soul.

Sometimes I think of the children at the day care centers or
at home waiting for their parents to return...
for their parents' hugs and love they still yearn.

I look into my young son's eyes and think
of the children who lost their lives.

I think of my older son and the fine military officer he will be
for he has chosen to protect you and me.

The phoenix that has risen from that day
is the strength, love, and courage that has come our way.

September 11th has forever changed me
I hope in a way that YOU can see.
